TROPICAL STORM HERMINE IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHEAST OFF THE
MID ATLANTIC COAST...AND THEN SLOW DOWN OR EVEN STALL
OFF THE COAST LATER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY.
A TROPICAL STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR LONG ISLAND...NEW YORK
CITY...HUDSON AND EASTERN ESSEX AND UNION COUNTIES
OF NEW JERSEY...COASTAL CONNECTICUT...AND SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER
COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NY AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS.
SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS. TROPICAL STORM FORCE GUSTS ARE POSSIBLE FARTHER INLAND.
SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE WITH MODERATE TO MAJOR COASTAL
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE AROUND THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE FROM SUNDAY
ONWARD. HAZARDOUS SEAS...DANGEROUSLY ROUGH SURF...AND A LIFE
THREATENING RIP CURRENT RISK CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED FROM THIS WEEKEND
INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. RAINFALL OF ONE TO THREE INCHES IS
POSSIBLE WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS DEPENDING ON THE TRACK OF THE SYSTEM.

PREPARE FOR UP TO 2 TO 4 FEET OF INUNDATION HAVING POSSIBLE EXTENSIVE
IMPACTS ACROSS COASTAL LOCATIONS OF LONG ISLAND...NEW YORK CITY...
CONNECTICUT...WESTCHESTER COUNTY...AND TIDAL PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
- LARGE SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ESCAPE ROUTES AND SECONDARY ROADS
WASHED OUT OR SEVERELY FLOODED. FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEMS AND
BARRIERS WILL BECOME STRESSED AND LIKELY OVERWHELMED.
- SEVERE BEACH EROSION WITH SIGNIFICANT DUNE LOSS.
- MAJOR DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, BOARDWALKS, AND PIERS. MANY
SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS, ESPECIALLY IN
UNPROTECTED ANCHORAGES WITH SOME LIFTED ONSHORE AND STRANDED.
- ALONG THE OCEANFRONT...AREAS OF DEEP INUNDATION FROM STORM SURGE
AND BATTERING WAVES. STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS,
WITH SEVERAL WASHING AWAY. DAMAGE COMPOUNDED BY FLOATING
DEBRIS.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY AND
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED.
* WIND:
PREPARE FOR TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF 39 TO 57 MPH. POTENTIAL
IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
- SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING MATERIALS, ALONG WITH DAMAGE
TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, AND SHEDS. A FEW BUILDINGS
EXPERIENCING WINDOW, DOOR, AND GARAGE DOOR FAILURES. MOBILE
HOMES DAMAGED, ESPECIALLY IF UNANCHORED. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT
OBJECTS BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES.
- SEVERAL LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED, BUT WITH GREATER
NUMBERS IN PLACES WHERE TREES ARE SHALLOW ROOTED. SEVERAL
FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
- SOME ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM LARGE DEBRIS, AND MORE WITHIN URBAN
OR HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. A FEW BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND ACCESS
ROUTES IMPASSABLE.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES, BUT MORE PREVALENT
IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.
* FLOODING RAIN:
LITTLE TO NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHERN
CONNECTICUT.
* TORNADOES:
LITTLE TO NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...NORTHEASTERN NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHERN

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND BATTERING SURF CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DUNE
EROSION AND LOCALIZED OVERWASHES ARE FORECAST INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.
