SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

HERMINE IS A STRONG TROPICAL STORM MOVING NORTH OVER THE EASTERN GULF
OF MEXICO AND IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL LATE TONIGHT NEAR APALACHICOLA
FLORIDA. THE STORM WILL ACCELERATE NORTH AND NORTHEASTWARD, MOVING
OVER THE EASTERN CAROLINAS LATE FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY. SEVERAL
HOURS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED
DURING THIS TIME.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MOST OF THE AREA. A FLASH
FLOOD WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL AREAS FROM EARLY FRIDAY THROUGH
EARLY SATURDAY. THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ALSO INCLUDED A SLIGHT
RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER FRIDAY AND EARLY SATURDAY WITH THE MAIN THREAT
BEING STRONG WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.

HAZARDOUS SEAS, AND DANGEROUSLY ROUGH SURF CAN BE EXPECTED FRIDAY AND
SATURDAY. A HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK CONTINUES FOR ALL BEACHES THROUGH
SATURDAY.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* FLOODING RAIN:
PROTECT AGAINST DANGEROUS RAINFALL FLOODING HAVING POSSIBLE
SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST
SOUTH CAROLINA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - MODERATE FLOODING FROM RAINFALL.
    - SMALL CREEKS AND DITCHES MAY OVERFLOW.
    - DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS.

* WIND:
PREPARE FOR GUSTY WINDS ACROSS NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST
NORTH CAROLINA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
    - SOME DAMAGE TO ROOFING AND SIDING, ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO PORCHES
      AND AWNINGS.
    - LARGE LIMBS AND SOME TREES MAY BE DOWNED.
    - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE, BUT
      MORE PREVALENT IN AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.
    - SMALL CRAFT THAT ARE NOT PROPERLY MOORED MAY BREAK LOOSE.

* TORNADOES:
PROTECT AGAINST A TORNADO EVENT HAVING POSSIBLE IMPACTS
ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - A FEW PLACES MAY EXPERIENCE TORNADO DAMAGE, ALONG WITH POWER
      AND COMMUNICATIONS DISRUPTIONS.

* STORM SURGE:
MINOR OCEAN OVERWASH AND EROSION ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME ALONG
AREA BEACHES. COASTAL INUNDATION OF 1 TO 2 FEET IS POSSIBLE DURING
TIME OF HIGH TIDE, ESPECIALLY FRIDAY NIGHT.

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
THERE IS A HIGH RISK FOR RIP CURRENTS...ROUGH SURF AND HIGH WATER
RUN-UP ONTO THE BEACHES CAN BE EXPECTED.
