SITUATION OVERVIEW

DANGEROUS HURRICANE MATTHEW IS EXPECTED TO TRACK ALONG THE SOUTH
CAROLINA COAST TODAY AND TONIGHT BEFORE MOVING OFFSHORE ON SUNDAY.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE ACROSS INLAND
AREAS AND COULD BRING WIND GUSTS OF 40 MPH IN AND AROUND THE
TROPICAL STORM WARNING AREA THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. ALL INTERESTS
ACROSS PARTS OF EAST...SOUTHEAST...AND COASTAL GEORGIA...
ESPECIALLY ALONG AND EAST OF A DUBLIN TO WASHINGTON LINE...SHOULD
PREPARE FOR HAZARDOUS WINDS. THERE IS ALSO A HEAVY RAIN THREAT
OVER THIS SAME AREA WITH 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAINFALL EXPECTED...AND
ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING ISOLATED FLASH
FLOODING...ESPECIALLY ALONG FLOOD PRONE CREEKS AND RIVERS.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND: POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT MAY CONTINUE
ACROSS PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL GEORGIA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- DAMAGE TO PORCHES, AWNINGS, CARPORTS, SHEDS, AND UNANCHORED
MOBILE HOMES. UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT. A FEW
TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. SOME FENCES AND ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN
OVER. - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.
* FLOODING RAIN: PROTECT AGAINST LOCALLY HAZARDOUS RAINFALL
FLOODING HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED IMPACTS ACROSS PORTIONS OF EAST
CENTRAL GEORGIA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE: - RIVERS AND
TRIBUTARIES MAY QUICKLY RISE . SMALL STREAMS, CREEKS, CANALS,
ARROYOS, AND DITCHES MAY BECOME SWOLLEN AND OVERFLOW IN SPOTS. A
FEW PLACES WHERE RAPID PONDING OF WATER OCCURS AT UNDERPASSES,
LOW-LYING SPOTS, AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. SEVERAL STORM DRAINS
AND RETENTION PONDS BECOME NEAR-FULL AND BEGIN TO OVERFLOW. SOME
BRIEF ROAD AND BRIDGE CLOSURES. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS

DURING THE STORM, KEEP YOUR SHOES ON AND RAIN GEAR HANDY. BOOTS

UNEXPECTEDLY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS.
