    - MOVEMENT NORTH-NORTHWEST OR 345 DEGREES AT 12 MPH

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

AT 2 PM, THE CENTER OF CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE MATTHEW WAS LOCATED
ABOUT 40 MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF DAYTONA BEACH. MATTHEW HAS TURNED
SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND IS NOW MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH
AT 12 MPH.

HURRICANE FORCE GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG THE VOLUSIA COUNTY COAST
INTO LATE AFTERNOON AND WILL DROP TO TROPICAL STORM GUSTS BY EARLY EVENING
AS THE HURRICANE MOVES NORTH OF THE AREA.

THE WIND GUSTED TO 91 MPH NEAR DAYTONA BEACH AIRPORT AT 1012 AM THIS MORNING
AT MESONET WEATHER STATION.

FREQUENT SQUALLS WITH GUSTS TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE WILL BE FELT ACROSS
WELL INLAND SECTIONS OF VOLUSIA COUNTY...LAKE...SEMINOLE...ORANGE AND NORTHERN
BREVARD INTO LATE AFTERNOON.

CONDITIONS WILL BE IMPROVING THROUGH LATE AFTERNOON ACROSS OKEECHOBEE COUNTY
AND THE TREASURE COAST WHERE THE TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS WERE DISCONTINUED
AT 11 AM.

THERE REMAINS A HEAVY RAIN THREAT ACROSS MAINLY VOLUSIA COUNTY THIS
AFTERNOON WHERE ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF ONE TO TWO INCHES MAY CAUSE
FLOODING OF ROADWAYS AND LOW-LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. THIS WILL
ALLOW STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS TO REACH 6 TO 10 INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS
OF VOLUSIA COUNTY.

POUNDING WAVES AT EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA BEACHES WILL BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
STAY OUT OF THE OCEAN THIS AFTERNOON.

RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED
TO MONITOR THE LATEST PRODUCTS ISSUED BY YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN WIND EVENT ARE ALSO NOW UNFOLDING
ACROSS VOLUSIA COUNTY. REMAIN WELL SHELTERED FROM  DANGEROUS WIND HAVING
ADDITIONAL IMPACTS.

* SURGE:

POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE MAIN SURGE EVENT ARE ALSO NOW UNFOLDING
ACROSS COASTAL VOLUSIA COUNTY. REMAIN WELL AWAY FROM LIFE-THREATENING
SURGE HAVING POSSIBLE IMPACTS.

* FLOODING RAIN:

POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THE FLOODING RAIN ARE STILL UNFOLDING ACROSS
VOLUSIA COUNTY. REMAIN WELL GUARDED AGAINST LOCALLY HAZARDOUS FLOOD
WATERS HAVING POSSIBLE IMPACTS.


* TORNADOES:
LITTLE TO NO ADDITIONAL IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

* EVACUATIONS:

DO NOT RETURN TO EVACUATED AREAS UNTIL IT IS SAFE. LISTEN FOR THE ALL-CLEAR
SIGNAL FROM LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

HEED THE ADVICE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND DO NOT CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS.
