SITUATION OVERVIEW

HURRICANE MATTHEW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS THIS
AFTERNOON, AND IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY NEAR THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA
BY TONIGHT. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON.
ON THE FORECAST TRACK, MATTHEW SHOULD CROSS THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS
LATER TODAY AND MOVE CLOSE TO OR OVER THE EAST COAST OF THE FLORIDA
PENINSULA TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE UPPER FLORIDA
KEYS...ESPECIALLY IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS...THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MIDDLE
FLORIDA KEYS IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
SEVERAL RAIN BANDS CONTINUE TO RACE THROUGH THE MIDDLE AND UPPER
KEYS AT 30 TO 40 MPH.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
OCCASIONAL HAZARDOUS WINDS HAVING POTENTIAL IMPACTS MAINLY IN THE
MIDDLE AND UPPER KEYS. THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
- HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED
ROADWAYS.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.
* SURGE: STORM SURGE OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE
FLORIDA KEYS, ALONG THE NORTHERN SHORES. LIMITED IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING MAINLY ALONG
IMMEDIATE SHORELINES AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS...MAINLY ON THE
NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE ISLANDS.
- SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME
OVERSPREAD WITH SURGE WATER. DRIVING CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS
IN PLACES WHERE SURGE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
* FLOODING RAIN:
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1-3 INCHES...WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS UP TO 5
INCHES. MINOR FLOODING OF SECONDARY ROADWAYS ARE POSSIBLE.
