SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------
HURRICANE MATTHEW REMAINS A MAJOR HURRICANE THAT IS EXPECTED TO
GAIN STRENGTH AS IT MOVES OVER THE WARM WATERS OF THE BAHAMAS
THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.
DO NOT FOCUS ON THE TRACK OF THE STORM! REGARDLESS OF IT'S EXACT
PATH, MATTHEW WILL BE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE THAT WILL
MOVE VERY NEAR THE SOUTHEASTERN FLORIDA COAST THURSDAY AND
THURSDAY NIGHT.
THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OVER MOST OF
SOUTHEAST FLORIDA. DEVASTATING IMPACTS REMAIN A CONCERN FOR COASTAL
PALM BEACH COUNTY.
SQUALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OUTER RAIN BANDS OF MATTHEW WILL BEGIN
IMPACTING THE AREA INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF THURSDAY. TROPICAL
STORM FORCE GUSTS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE WITHIN THESE
BANDS.
SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE
EASTERN HALF OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA AROUND MID THURSDAY MORNING,
POTENTIALLY REACHING INLAND AND GULF COAST AREAS BY EARLY AFTERNOON.
TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS MAY CONTINUE ACROSS MOST OF THE REGION
THROUGH FRIDAY. HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS EASTERN PALM
BEACH COUNTY THURSDAY NIGHT AND ARE ALSO POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF
COASTAL BROWARD COUNTY, AS WELL AS THE EASTERN LAKE OKEECHOBEE REGION.
ALTHOUGH LESS LIKELY, HURRICANE CONDITIONS CANNOT BE RULED OUT FOR
PORTIONS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AT THIS TIME.
EVERYONE SHOULD RUSH THEIR HURRICANE PREPARATIONS TO COMPLETION BY
DAYBREAK THURSDAY AND ANY REMAINING RELOCATIONS OR EVACUATIONS SHOULD
BE EXPEDITED OVERNIGHT AS CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE RAPIDLY THURSDAY
MORNING.
