SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

HURRICANE MATTHEW IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS THE BAHAMAS LATE
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. THE MAIN CONCERN FOR SOUTH FLORIDA AT THIS
TIME IS THE POSSIBILITY OF TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ACROSS EASTERN
SECTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA ALTHOUGH IT CANNOT BE RULED OUT ELSEWHERE.
HURRICANE CONDITIONS CANNOT BE RULED OUT EITHER PARTICULARLY OVER PALM
BEACH COUNTY. MAIN WINDOW OF CONCERN IS EARLY THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH
MIDDAY FRIDAY.

ANOTHER CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL FOR BEACH EROSION AND SOME COASTAL
FLOODING PARTICULARLY THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY ALONG THE ATLANTIC
COAST. THERE IS ALSO HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
LESSER CONCERNS AT THIS TIME INCLUDE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND
ISOLATED TORNADOES.

HOWEVER, ANY FURTHER SHIFTS TO THE LEFT OF THE CURRENT FORECAST COULD
INCREASE THE THREAT AND THEREFORE RESIDENTS SHOULD REMAIN INFORMED WITH
THE LATEST INFORMATION.

RESIDENTS OF SOUTH FLORIDA ARE REMINDED TO REVIEW THEIR PREPAREDNESS
PLANS NOW.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
PREPARE FOR LIFE-THREATENING WIND HAVING POSSIBLE EXTENSIVE IMPACTS
ACROSS PORTIONS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA
INCLUDE:
    - CONSIDERABLE ROOF DAMAGE TO STURDY BUILDINGS, WITH SOME HAVING
      WINDOW, DOOR, AND GARAGE DOOR FAILURES LEADING TO STRUCTURAL
      DAMAGE. MOBILE HOMES SEVERELY DAMAGED, WITH SOME DESTROYED.
      DAMAGE ACCENTUATED BY AIRBORNE PROJECTILES. LOCATIONS MAY BE
      UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS.
    - MANY LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED ALONG WITH FENCES AND
      ROADWAY SIGNS BLOWN OVER.
    - SOME ROADS IMPASSABLE FROM LARGE DEBRIS, AND MORE WITHIN URBAN
      OR HEAVILY WOODED PLACES. SEVERAL BRIDGES, CAUSEWAYS, AND
      ACCESS ROUTES IMPASSABLE.
    - LARGE AREAS WITH POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES. SOME WINDOWS
      MAY BE SHATTERED BY FLYING DEBRIS, PARTICULARLY IN HIGH RISE
      BUILDINGS OR THOSE WINDOWS NOT IMPACT RESISTANT.

ALSO, PREPARE FOR DANGEROUS WINDS HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED TO SIGNIFICANT
IMPACTS ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTH FLORIDA.

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
A SIGNIFICANT CONCERN AS HURRICANE MATTHEW PASSES EAST OF THE AREA IS
THE POTENTIAL FOR BEACH EROSION FROM HIGH WAVES ACTION AND DANGEROUS
RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE SOUTHEAST FLORIDA BEACHES. MAIN WINDOW OF CONCERN
IS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR BEACH EROSION AND HIGH WAVES WITH A HIGH
RISK OF RIP CURRENTS LINGERING INTO THE WEEKEND.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:
NOW IS THE TIME TO CHECK YOUR EMERGENCY PLAN AND BE READY TO ACT SHOULD
WARNINGS BECOME NECESSARY. WHEN MAKING SAFETY AND PREPAREDNESS DECISIONS,
DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT FORECAST TRACK AS THERE ARE INHERENT FORECAST
UNCERTAINTIES WHICH MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.

CLOSELY MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR OTHER LOCAL NEWS OUTLETS FOR
OFFICIAL STORM INFORMATION. LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE
