A TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT MAUI COUNTY...INCLUDING THE
ISLANDS OF MAUI...MOLOKAI...LANAI...KAHOOLAWE.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND FROM
LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

A HIGH SURF WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF MAUI
AND THE BIG ISLAND UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY.

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF
KAUAI...OAHU...AND MOLOKAI UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY.

AT 5 AM HST...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DARBY WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 18.6N...LONGITUDE 149.2W...OR ABOUT 390 MILES EAST
OF HILO...OR ABOUT 595 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF HONOLULU HAWAII.
TROPICAL STORM DARBY IS MOVING WEST AT 12 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED
WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MPH.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM DARBY IS FORECAST TO APPROACH THE BIG ISLAND FROM
THE EAST-SOUTHEAST THROUGH TOMORROW BEFORE TAKING A GRADUAL TURN
TOWARD THE NORTHWEST. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF DARBY
EXPECTED TO PASS VERY CLOSE TO...OR OVER...THE BIG ISLAND ON
SATURDAY...AND VERY CLOSE TO THE ISLANDS OF MAUI COUNTY SATURDAY
NIGHT AND SUNDAY. HOWEVER...THERE IS STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY
AS TO WHERE THE CENTER OF DARBY WILL GO. ALSO IT IS IMPORTANT TO
REMEMBER THAT THE HAZARDS OF A TROPICAL CYCLONE...WHICH INCLUDE
LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN...HIGH AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING SURF...AND STRONG
WINDS...CAN EXTEND OVER A BROAD AREA AWAY FROM THE CENTER.
ADDITIONALLY...THE INTERACTION BETWEEN DARBY AND THE TERRAIN OF THE
ISLANDS WILL LIKELY LEAD TO LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WELL AWAY FROM THE

CONDITIONS AT HILO IS 51 PERCENT...44 PERCENT AT BRADSHAW FIELD...

THE ONSET OF TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED SATURDAY
MORNING.

...WINDS...
BASED ON THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK...TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
OVER 39 MPH...34 KNOTS...ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN OVERSPREADING THE
AREA EARLY SATURDAY. IN SOME AREAS...WINDS WILL BE AS HIGH AS
50 TO 60 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 70 MPH.

GUSTS WILL BE STRONGEST OVER MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN...THROUGH
PASSES...AND WHERE WINDS BLOW DOWNSLOPE. WINDS AFFECTING THE
UPPER FLOORS OF HIGH RISE BUILDINGS WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY
STRONGER THAN THOSE NEAR GROUND LEVEL.

HOMES MAY HAVE DAMAGE TO SHINGLES...SIDING...GUTTERS AND
WINDOWS...ESPECIALLY IF THESE ITEMS ARE NOT PROPERLY SECURED.
LOOSE OUTDOOR ITEMS WILL BECOME AIRBORNE...CAUSING ADDITIONAL
DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE INJURY.

SOME POWER LINES WILL BE KNOCKED DOWN BY FALLING TREES...
RESULTING IN SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES.  MANY LARGE BRANCHES OF
TREES WILL BE SNAPPED...AND A FEW TREES WILL BE UPROOTED.
