SUBTROPICAL STORM ANA CONTINUES TO DRIFT OFF THE SOUTHEAST UNITED STATES
COAST. THIS STORM WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY DURING THE WEEKEND AS IT APPROACHES
NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA. ANA MAY MOVE ONSHORE
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AS A TROPICAL STORM. THIS SLOW MOVEMENT WILL CREATE AN
EXTENDED PERIOD OF HEAVY RAINFALL...GUSTY WINDS...ROUGH SURF AND STRONG
RIP CURRENTS...AS WELL AS THE CHANCE FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
PROTECT AGAINST GUSTY WINDS ACROSS COASTAL PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH CAROLINA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- MINOR DAMAGE TO PORCHES...AWNINGS...CARPORTS...SHEDS AND
UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
- TREE LIMBS BROKEN OFF. SOME FENCES MAY BE BLOWN OVER.
- SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.
- HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES MAY BECOME DIFFICULT TO DRIVE.
* FLOODING RAIN:
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COAST MAY EXPERIENCE FLOODING.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- LOCALIZED FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND URBAN AREAS.
- FLOOD WATERS CAN ENTER A FEW STRUCTURES...ESPECIALLY THOSE SITUATED
IN OR NEAR FLOOD PRONE LOCATIONS.
- FLOODING IS POSSIBLE ACROSS SOME ROADWAYS AS WELL...INCLUDING LOW LYING
INTERSECTIONS AND OTHER POOR DRAINAGE SPOTS ALONG SECONDARY ROADS.
DRAINAGE DITCHES MAY BECOME FULL AND SPREAD ONTO ROADWAYS.
FARTHER INLAND ACROSS SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA AND NORTHEAST SOUTH
CAROLINA, LITTLE TO NO IMPACT IS ANTICIPATED.
* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
MINOR TO MODERATE BEACH EROSION IS EXPECTED MAINLY ALONG EAST AND SOUTHEAST
FACING BEACHES. STRONG RIP CURRENTS...BREAKING WAVES UP TO 6 FT...AND STRONG
LONGSHORE CURRENTS WILL CREATE DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS.
* TORNADOES:
A RISK FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL EXIST UNTIL THE STORM EXITS THE AREA.
THE MOST LIKELY LOCATIONS FOR ANY TORNADOES WILL BE NORTH AND EAST OF THE
CENTER OF ANA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- ISOLATED LOCATIONS MAY EXPERIENCE TORNADO DAMAGE, ALONG WITH POWER
AND COMMUNICATIONS DISRUPTIONS.
