TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR LOCAL STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
1154 PM EDT TUE JUL 1 2014

...TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR DRIFTING NORTHWARD...

.NEW INFORMATION...
ARTHUR HAS NOT STRENGTHENED THIS EVENING AND MAXIMUM SUSTAINED
WINDS REMAIN 50 MPH. THE STRONGEST WINDS AND MOST INTENSE RAINS
CONTINUE WELL OFFSHORE WITH SHOWER BANDS OCCASIONALLY MOVING
ONSHORE EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS LOCAL STATEMENT PROVIDES IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR PEOPLE AND MARINE INTERESTS IN SELECT
LOCATIONS AND COASTAL WATERS OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA AND ATLANTIC
WATERS.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR
ALL OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ATLANTIC WATERS...FROM FLAGLER BEACH
TO JUPITER INLET OUT TO 60 NAUTICAL MILES.

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR BREVARD...INDIAN
RIVER...SAINT LUCIE AND COASTAL VOLUSIA COUNTIES.

ALTHOUGH TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE NOT IN EFFECT
FOR MARTIN COUNTY...IMPACTS FROM ARTHUR ARE STILL A CONCERN.

.STORM INFORMATION...
AT 11 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 27.9N...LONGITUDE 79.2W. THIS WAS ABOUT 90 MILES
EAST-SOUTHEAST OF CAPE CANAVERAL FL...OR ABOUT 80 MILES
EAST-NORTHEAST OF FORT PIERCE FL. STORM MOTION WAS N OR
360 DEGREES AT 2 MPH. STORM INTENSITY WAS 50 MPH.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR WILL CONTINUE TO DRIFT NORTH OVERNIGHT...
WITH A SLIGHT INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED EXPECTED WEDNESDAY. THIS
WILL KEEP SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OFF THE COAST. THE
PRIMARY HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH ARTHUR REMAIN STRONG WIND GUSTS IN
SQUALLS THAT ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY
OVERNIGHT. BRIEF BUT TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS WILL LIKELY OCCUR IN
THESE SQUALLS ALONG WITH WIND GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH. REPEATED HEAVY
DOWNPOURS COULD RESULT IN LOCALIZED PONDING OF WATER OR TEMPORARY
FLOODING OF POORLY DRAINED LOWER LYING AREAS.

THERE IS A MODERATE THREAT OF FLOODING RAIN FOR ALL EAST CENTRAL
FLORIDA COASTAL COUNTIES...WITH A MUCH LOWER THREAT FOR THE
INTERIOR COUNTIES. RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE
POSSIBLE WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO 4 INCHES THROUGH
LATE WEDNESDAY IN COASTAL AREAS WHERE SHOWERS AND HEAVIER STORMS
OR SQUALLS MOVE REPEATEDLY OVER THE SAME AREA.

THERE IS A THREAT FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES AND WATERSPOUTS ALONG THE
COAST AND OVER THE ATLANTIC.

AT AREA BEACHES...BUILDING SURF COUPLED WITH AN INCREASING RISK
OF RIP CURRENTS WILL MAKE FOR UNSAFE SWIMMING CONDITIONS THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. PASSING SQUALLS WITH STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL ALSO CAUSE
LOOSE AND LIGHTER WEIGHT BEACH OBJECTS TO BLOW ABOUT.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

FOR MARINE INTERESTS UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING...SMALL CRAFT
SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AND WELL SECURED.

FOR THOSE COASTAL AREAS UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WATCH...CONTINUE

GUST OF 40 MPH OR HIGHER. LISTEN TO THE LATEST SHORT TERM FORECASTS
AND BE PREPARED TO ACT TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY IF ANY WARNINGS
FOR FLOODING OR HIGH WIND GUSTS ARE ISSUED FOR YOUR AREA.

DECREASING. HOWEVER...AS ARTHUR MOVES ROUGHLY PARALLEL TO THE
COAST OVERNIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING...IT IS FORECAST TO SLOWLY
STRENGTHEN...AND CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN WINDY NEAR THE COAST.
WHILE THE LATEST FORECAST KEEPS SUSTAINED WINDS BELOW TROPICAL
STORM FORCE...SQUALL BANDS WILL PRODUCE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND
GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH.

...INLAND FLOODING...
RAIN BANDS WILL BRING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ACCUMULATING 1 TO 2
INCHES CLOSE TO THE COAST WITH LOCALIZED AMOUNTS UP TO 4 INCHES
POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY. AS SUCH...THERE IS A MODERATE THREAT
FOR HEAVY RAIN TO PRODUCE LOCAL FLOODING.

...TORNADOES...

WHILE TROPICAL STORM WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE NOT IN EFFECT...
GUSTY WINDS WILL STILL OCCUR WITH BANDS OF SQUALLS OR STORMS
THAT BRUSH THE COAST OR PUSH OFFSHORE.

...INLAND FLOODING...
HEAVY RAIN WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREAT WITHIN RAIN BANDS...PRODUCING
LOCALLY 1 TO 2 INCHES AND CAUSING FLOODING OF SOME LOW LYING AND
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. ISOLATED AMOUNTS TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.
