FINAL ACTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY SHOULD BE COMPLETED
BEFORE CONDITIONS DETERIORATE. COVER WINDOWS AND DOORS WITH
SHUTTERS OR PLYWOOD. MOVE PATIO FURNITURE AND OTHER LOOSE OUTDOOR
OBJECTS INSIDE. BRACE ALL EXTERIOR DOORS...INCLUDING GARAGE DOORS.

COMPLY WITH ANY EVACUATION ORDERS ISSUED FOR YOUR AREA. IF YOU
LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME...LEAVE IT FOR MORE SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. IF
YOUR HOME IS VULNERABLE TO HIGH WINDS...OR YOU LIVE IN A SURGE
ZONE OR ANY LOCATION PRONE TO FLOODING...EVACUATE TO A DESIGNATED
SHELTER OR RIDE OUT THE STORM IN THE STURDY HOME OF FAMILY OR
FRIENDS OUTSIDE OF EVACUATION ZONES.

&&

...WINDS...
AS TROPICAL STORM KAREN APPROACHES...SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN TONIGHT AFTER MIDNIGHT. MAXIMUM
WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 50 TO 60 MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS TO
75 MPH.

DAMAGING WINDS ARE LIKELY. MOST POORLY ANCHORED MOBILE HOMES
WILL BE DAMAGED...SOME SEVERELY. OTHER HOMES MAY HAVE DAMAGE TO
SHINGLES...SIDING...GUTTERS AND WINDOWS...ESPECIALLY IF THESE
ITEMS ARE NOT PROPERLY SECURED. LOOSE OUTDOOR ITEMS WILL BECOME
AIRBORNE...CAUSING ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE INJURY. SOME
POWER LINES WILL BE KNOCKED DOWN BY FALLING TREES...RESULTING IN
SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES. MANY LARGE BRANCHES OF TREES WILL BE
SNAPPED...AND A FEW TREES WILL BE UPROOTED.

...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
AS TROPICAL STORM KAREN APPROACHES THE COAST...THERE IS AN
INCREASING CHANCE FOR COMBINED STORM SURGE AND ASTRONOMICAL TIDE
WATERS UP TO 5 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL WITHIN AREAS CLOSER TO
THE COAST...RESULTING IN WORST CASE FLOOD INUNDATION OF 3 TO
5 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE SURGE ZONE.

THE LOCATIONS MOST LIKELY TO REALIZE THE GREATEST FLOODING
INCLUDE EAST FACING SHORELINES OUTSIDE OF HURRICANE PROTECTION
LEVEES. THE MOST LIKELY PERIOD OF IMPACT WILL BE FRIDAY NIGHT
THROUGH SATURDAY.

FOR 2 TO 4 FEET OF INUNDATION STORM SURGE FLOODING CAN BE
EXPECTED OUTSIDE HURRICANE PROTECTION LEVEES. FLOODING OF SEVERAL
FEET OF WATER WILL OCCUR IN NON ELEVATED STRUCTURES OR THOSE BUILT
ON SLABS... CAUSING DAMAGE. ROADS ALONG THE COAST...BAYOUS...BAYS
AND LOW LYING AREAS WILL BE IMPASSABLE.
