NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
623 PM EDT SUN AUG 26 2012

...BANDS OF HEAVY RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA
AS ISAAC PASSES...

.NEW INFORMATION...
UPDATED WIND AND WARNINGS.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS LOCAL STATEMENT PROVIDES IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR PEOPLE AND MARINE INTERESTS IN SELECT
LOCATIONS AND COASTAL WATER LEGS OF SOUTH FLORIDA.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
GLADES...HENDRY...INLAND PALM BEACH...METRO PALM BEACH...COASTAL
COLLIER...INLAND COLLIER...INLAND BROWARD...METRO BROWARD...
INLAND MIAMI DADE...METRO MIAMI DADE...MAINLAND MONROE...COASTAL
PALM BEACH...COASTAL BROWARD...COASTAL MIAMI DADE AND FAR SOUTH
MIAMI DADE.

FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR
ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA WATERS.

A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA. PLEASE
LISTEN CLOSELY FOR ANY FLOOD WARNINGS THAT MIGHT BE IN EFFECT FOR
YOUR AREA.

.STORM INFORMATION...
AT 5 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 24.2N...LONGITUDE 82.3W. THIS WAS ABOUT 170 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI FL...OR ABOUT 140 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF
NAPLES FL. STORM MOTION WAS WNW OR 295 DEGREES AT 16 MPH. STORM
INTENSITY WAS 60 MPH.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS...MOSTLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE
RAINBANDS SPREADING ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA...WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT
THE LOCAL AREA WELL INTO THE NIGHT AS ISAAC PASSES SOUTHWEST OF
THE AREA. OVERNIGHT...EXPECT THE WINDS TO BEGIN TO TREND DOWN
BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE LEVELS AS ISAAC BEGINS TO LIFT
NORTHWEST AWAY FROM SOUTH FLORIDA...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE EASTERN
HALF OF THE PENINSULA. FOR THE GULF COAST AND THE ADJACENT GULF
WATERS...EXPECT THE WINDS TO BEGIN TO SUBSIDE BELOW TROPICAL STORM
FORCE LEVELS THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS MONDAY.

THERE IS ALSO THE CONCERN FOR MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING ACROSS
PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD INTO
MONDAY. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS UP TO 3 TO 5 INCHES WILL
REMAIN A POSSIBILITY WITH LOCALLY HIGHER POSSIBLE. AS TYPICALLY
OBSERVED IN THESE EVENTS...LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL CERTAINLY
REMAIN A POSSIBILITY...ESPECIALLY WHERE THE BANDS BECOME
CONCENTRATED OR REPEATEDLY TRAIN OVER THE SAME AREAS.

ANOTHER CONCERN WILL BE THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES,
WITH LITTLE OR NO ADVANCED WARNING, IN RAINBANDS WITH THE THREAT
CONTINUING THROUGH THE NIGHT AND INTO MONDAY.

THERE STILL REMAINS A POTENTIAL FOR MINOR TO MODERATE COASTAL
FLOODING ALONG THE GULF COAST...ESPECIALLY FROM MARCO ISLAND TO
EVERGLADES CITY AS THE WINDS BECOME ONSHORE LATE TONIGHT INTO
MONDAY MORNING. THIS COMBINED WITH THE REGULAR HIGH TIDE CYCLE
WILL LEAD TO THE BEST CHANCE FOR COASTAL FLOODING AROUND DAYBREAK
MONDAY MORNING.

FOR BISCAYNE BAY...THERE REMAINS A MINOR THREAT OF COASTAL
FLOODING THROUGH THE REGULAR HIGH TIDE CYCLE FROM LATE THIS
AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. OTHERWISE...EXPECT THE
THREAT TO DIMINISH TONIGHT AS THE WINDS SHIFT TO THE SOUTH.

SURF WILL PEAK THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS TODAY...THEN STEADILY
SUBSIDE LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY ALONG THE ATLANTIC BEACHES
OF SOUTHEAST FLORIDA. ALONG THE GULF COAST...SURF WILL QUICKLY
BUILD TONIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING AND PEAK BY MONDAY AFTERNOON
BEFORE TRENDING DOWN. THE COMBINATION OF SURF AND ONSHORE WINDS
WILL RESULT IN LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENTS ALONG WITH MODERATE
BEACH EROSION ALONG THE GULF AND ATLANTIC BEACHES.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DURING THE STORM...STAY INSIDE AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS. DO NOT
VENTURE OUTSIDE WHEN HIGH WINDS ARE OCCURRING OR DURING TEMPORARY
LULLS AS FLYING DEBRIS CAN EASILY...AND SUDDENLY...CAUSE SERIOUS
INJURY.

HAVE A WELL CHARGED CELL PHONE NEARBY...KEEPING NETWORK
COMMUNICATIONS AS OPEN AS POSSIBLE FOR EMERGENCIES.

CLOSELY MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR OTHER LOCAL NEWS
OUTLETS FOR OFFICIAL STORM INFORMATION. LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE
CHANGES TO THE FORECAST.

FOR ANY SMALL CRAFT WHO FAILED TO MAKE IT TO SAFE HARBOR
OR PORT...AND ARE NOW IN DISTRESS...RADIO YOUR SITUATION
ACCORDING TO MARITIME PROTOCOL. IF APPROPRIATE...DEPLOY YOUR
EMERGENCY DISTRESS BEACON. ENSURE THAT EVERYONE IS WEARING
LIFE JACKETS...AND SURVIVAL SUITS IF AVAILABLE.

&&

.NEXT UPDATE...
THE NEXT LOCAL STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE IN MIAMI AROUND 12 AM...OR SOONER IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.

...TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...

...WINDS...
AS TROPICAL STORM PASSES SOUTHWEST OF THE AREA...SUSTAINED
WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS TO TROPICAL STORM
FORCE...MAINLY LIMITED TO THE RAINBANDS AS THEY MOVE
THROUGH...WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE INTO TONIGHT. THIS REPRESENTS A
MINOR POTENTIAL IMPACT TO THE AREA WITH MINOR WIND DAMAGE.

...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
FOR THE GULF COAST...TOTAL WATER LEVELS REACHING 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE
THE GROUND LEVEL WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE FROM MARCO ISLAND TO
EVERGLADE CITY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH DAYBREAK MONDAY AROUND HIGH
TIDE...WHICH COULD RESULT IN MINOR TO MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING.

FOR BISCAYNE BAY...TOTAL WATER LEVELS REACHING 1 TO 2 FEET ABOVE
THE REGULAR LATE AFTERNOON HIGH TIDE CYCLE WILL BE EXPECTED
THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS TODAY. OTHERWISE...THE THREAT FOR
COASTAL FLOODING WILL DIMINISH TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY.

IN ADDITION TO THE COASTAL FLOOD THREAT...THE COMBINATION OF
ONSHORE WINDS AND MODERATE TO LARGE SURF WILL LEAD TO MINOR TO
MODERATE BEACH EROSION. STORM SURGE AND TIDE ACCENTUATED BY WIND
WAVES BREACHING DUNES AND POSSIBLY SEAWALLS IN SCATTERED LOCATIONS
TO RESULT IN DAMAGE TO SHORELINE BUILDINGS, MAINLY IN HISTORICALLY
VULNERABLE SPOTS. MODERATE DAMAGE TO MARINAS, DOCKS, AND PIERS.
SEVERAL SMALL CRAFT BROKEN AWAY FROM MOORINGS, ESPECIALLY IN
UNPROTECTED ANCHORAGES.
