RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR PEOPLE AND MARINE INTERESTS IN SELECT
LOCATIONS AND COASTAL WATER LEGS OF SOUTH FLORIDA.
.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FOLLOWING
LOCATIONS...COASTAL COLLIER...MAINLAND MONROE AND FAR SOUTH MIAMI
DADE.
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
GLADES...HENDRY...INLAND PALM BEACH...METRO PALM BEACH...INLAND
COLLIER...INLAND BROWARD...METRO BROWARD...INLAND MIAMI DADE...
METRO MIAMI DADE...COASTAL PALM BEACH...COASTAL BROWARD AND
COASTAL MIAMI DADE.
FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR
PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA WATERS.
FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR
PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA WATERS.
A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA. PLEASE
LISTEN CLOSELY FOR ANY FLOOD WARNINGS THAT MIGHT BE IN EFFECT FOR
YOUR AREA.
.STORM INFORMATION...
AT 5 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 24.2N...LONGITUDE 82.3W. THIS WAS ABOUT 170 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI FL...OR ABOUT 140 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF
NAPLES FL. STORM MOTION WAS WNW OR 295 DEGREES AT 16 MPH. STORM
INTENSITY WAS 60 MPH.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS...MOSTLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE
RAINBANDS SPREADING ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA...WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT
THE LOCAL AREA WELL INTO THE NIGHT AS ISAAC PASSES SOUTHWEST OF
THE AREA. OVERNIGHT...EXPECT THE WINDS TO BEGIN TO TREND DOWN
BELOW TROPICAL STORM FORCE LEVELS AS ISAAC BEGINS TO LIFT
NORTHWEST AWAY FROM SOUTH FLORIDA...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE EASTERN
HALF OF THE PENINSULA. FOR THE GULF COAST AND THE ADJACENT GULF
WATERS...EXPECT THE WINDS TO BEGIN TO SUBSIDE BELOW TROPICAL STORM
FORCE LEVELS THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS MONDAY.
THERE IS ALSO THE CONCERN FOR MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING ACROSS
PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD INTO MONDAY.
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS UP TO 3 TO 5 INCHES WILL REMAIN A
POSSIBILITY WITH LOCALLY HIGHER POSSIBLE. AS TYPICALLY OBSERVED
IN THESE EVENTS...LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL CERTAINLY REMAIN A
POSSIBILITY...ESPECIALLY WHERE THE BANDS BECOME CONCENTRATED OR
REPEATEDLY TRAIN OVER THE SAME AREAS.
ANOTHER CONCERN WILL BE THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES, WITH
LITTLE OR NO ADVANCED WARNING, IN RAINBANDS WITH THE THREAT
CONTINUING THROUGH THE NIGHT AND INTO MONDAY.
THERE STILL REMAINS A POTENTIAL FOR MINOR TO MODERATE COASTAL
FLOODING ALONG THE GULF COAST...ESPECIALLY FROM MARCO ISLAND TO
EVERGLADES CITY AS THE WINDS BECOME ONSHORE LATE TONIGHT INTO MONDAY
MORNING. THIS COMBINED WITH THE REGULAR HIGH TIDE CYCLE WILL LEAD TO
THE BEST CHANCE FOR COASTAL FLOODING AROUND DAYBREAK MONDAY
MORNING.
FOR BISCAYNE BAY...THERE REMAINS A MINOR THREAT OF COASTAL FLOODING
THROUGH THE REGULAR HIGH TIDE CYCLE FROM LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO
THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. OTHERWISE...EXPECT THE THREAT TO DIMINISH
TONIGHT AS THE WINDS SHIFT TO THE SOUTH.
SURF WILL PEAK THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS TODAY...THEN STEADILY
SUBSIDE LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY ALONG THE ATLANTIC BEACHES OF
SOUTHEAST FLORIDA. ALONG THE GULF COAST...SURF WILL QUICKLY BUILD
TONIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING AND PEAK BY MONDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE
TRENDING DOWN. THE COMBINATION OF SURF AND ONSHORE WINDS WILL RESULT
IN LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENTS ALONG WITH MODERATE BEACH EROSION
ALONG THE GULF AND ATLANTIC BEACHES.
.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
DURING THE STORM...STAY INSIDE AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS. DO NOT
VENTURE OUTSIDE WHEN HIGH WINDS ARE OCCURRING OR DURING TEMPORARY
LULLS AS FLYING DEBRIS CAN EASILY... AND SUDDENLY...CAUSE SERIOUS
INJURY.
HAVE A WELL CHARGED CELL PHONE NEARBY...KEEPING NETWORK
COMMUNICATIONS AS OPEN AS POSSIBLE FOR EMERGENCIES.
CLOSELY MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR OTHER LOCAL NEWS
OUTLETS FOR OFFICIAL STORM INFORMATION. LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE
CHANGES TO THE FORECAST.
FOR ANY SMALL CRAFT WHO FAILED TO MAKE IT TO SAFE HARBOR
OR PORT...AND ARE NOW IN DISTRESS...RADIO YOUR SITUATION
ACCORDING TO MARITIME PROTOCOL. IF APPROPRIATE...DEPLOY YOUR
EMERGENCY DISTRESS BEACON. ENSURE THAT EVERYONE IS WEARING
LIFE JACKETS...AND SURVIVAL SUITS IF AVAILABLE.
&&
.NEXT UPDATE...

...WINDS...
AS TROPICAL STORM ISAAC PASSES BY THE AREA...SUSTAINED TROPICAL
STORM FORCE WINDS MOSTLY IN RAIN BANDS MAY OCCUR ACROSS THE AREA.
MAXIMUM WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH ARE LIKELY.
THE THREAT OF SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS IS FORECAST TO
END BY LATE THIS EVENING OR EARLY MONDAY MORNING.
WIND GUSTS OF UP TO 59 MPH HAVE BEEN RECORDED ACROSS PORTIONS OF
MIAMI DATE THIS TODAY.
THERE IS NO LONGER A THREAT OF SUSTAINED HURRICANE FORCE WINDS
AND THEREFORE THE HURRICANE WATCH HAS BEEN CANCELED. HOWEVER...
WIND GUSTS CLOSE TO HURRICANE FORCE WITH ONE OR TWO RAIN BANDS IS
STILL A POSSIBILITY.
THIS REPRESENTS A THREAT OF AT LEAST MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE
WIND DAMAGE. THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE TO PORCHES...
CARPORTS...AND AWNINGS ALONG WITH SOME DAMAGE TO SHINGLES AND
SIDING...LARGE BRANCHES BROKEN OFF TREES WITH SEVERAL SHALLOW-
ROOTED AND DISEASED TREES BLOWN DOWN...AND UNSECURED LIGHT-
WEIGHT OBJECTS EASILY BLOWN ABOUT BECOMING DANGEROUS PROJECTILES.
DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL BE DANGEROUS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER
ELEVATED ROADWAYS...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. A FEW
ROADS WILL BE IMPASSABLE DUE TO LARGE DEBRIS. THERE IS POTENTIAL
FOR AT LEAST SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WITH
ABOVE GROUND LINES.
...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
AS TROPICAL STORM ISAAC PASSES BY THE AREA...THERE IS A CHANCE
FOR COMBINED STORM SURGE AND ASTRONOMICAL TIDE WATERS 2 TO 3 FEET
ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL WITHIN AREAS CLOSER TO THE COAST...RESULTING
IN WORST CASE FLOOD INUNDATION UP TO 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE GROUND
LEVEL SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE SURGE ZONE.
THE LOCATIONS AT GREATER RISK TO EXPERIENCE THE GREATEST FLOODING
INCLUDE AREAS IMMEDIATE ADJACENT TO BISCAYNE BAY FROM MIAMI BEACH
SOUTH TO SOUTH MIAMI DADE.
THIS REPRESENTS A THREAT OF MINOR TO LOCALLY MODERATE COASTAL
FLOOD DAMAGE FROM SEA WATER. IF REALIZED...EXPECT PARTIAL
INUNDATION WITHIN THE FLOOD ZONE...ESPECIALLY FOR LOW-LYING
AREAS. VERY HEAVY SURF ALONG WITH PERSISTENT ONSHORE WINDS WILL
MOST LIKELY LEAD TO MODERATE TO MAJOR BEACH EROSION.

AS TROPICAL STORM ISAAC APPROACHES...SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE AREA MAINLY
IN RAIN BANDS ACROSS THE BROWARD AND PALM BEACH COASTS. THIS
WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD WEST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE
AREA THIS AFTERNOON. MAXIMUM WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO

SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS IS NOT FORECAST TO END UNTIL
SHORTLY BEFORE SUNRISE MONDAY MORNING ACROSS GLADES...HENDRY...
AND INLAND COLLIER COUNTIES AND AROUND MIDNIGHT ACROSS PALM BEACH
AND BROWARD COUNTIES.
EARLIER TODAY PORT EVERGLADES AND POMPANO OBSERVATIONS REPORTED
SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 TO 50 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
THIS REPRESENTS A THREAT OF AT LEAST MINOR WIND DAMAGE. THERE IS
A POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE TO PORCHES...CARPORTS...AND AWNINGS ALONG
WITH SOME DAMAGE TO LARGE BRANCHES BROKEN OFF TREES WITH SEVERAL
SHALLOW-ROOTED AND DISEASED TREES BLOWN DOWN...AND UNSECURED
LIGHT- WEIGHT OBJECTS EASILY BLOWN ABOUT BECOMING DANGEROUS

AREAS WITH ABOVE GROUND LINES.
...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
AS TROPICAL STORM ISAAC APPROACHES THE COAST...THERE REMAINS A
MINOR THREAT FOR COASTAL FLOODING...MAINLY ALONG THE BARRIER
ISLANDS OF PALM BEACH AND BROWARD COUNTIES. ADDITIONALLY...THE
COMBINATION OF MODERATE TO LARGE SURF AND ONSHORE WINDS WILL
LIKELY RESULT IN MODERATE TO LOCALLY MAJOR BEACH EROSION.
