STORM INTENSITY WAS 50 MPH.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO FOCUS ON THE EXACT TRACK OF THE CENTER OF
TROPICAL STORM LEE. LEE IS A LARGE STORM WITH TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
EXTENDING 200 MILES SOUTHEAST THROUGH NORTHEAST FROM THE CENTER. THE
TROPICAL STORM IS FORECAST TO MOVE SLOWLY NORTH TO THE LOUISIANA
COAST THIS AFTERNOON OR TONIGHT...THEN MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARD
SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING. SINCE LEE IS SUCH A
LARGE STORM...ITS IMPACTS WILL BE FELT ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA WELL IN
ADVANCE OF THE CENTER.
BANDS OF SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE ROTATING
AROUND THE CENTER...TRACKING NORTH AND EAST FROM THE COASTAL WATERS
ACROSS SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND SOUTHEAST
MISSISSIPPI THROUGH THE DAY. THESE BANDS ARE FORECAST TO BECOME MORE
INTENSE AND WIDESPREAD THROUGH THE DAY...CONTINUING OVERNIGHT AND
INTO SUNDAY. PERIODS OF EXTREMELY HEAVY RAIN ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE
REGION WITH STORM TOTAL RAINFALL OF 10 TO 15 INCHES WITH LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY OVER THE COASTAL ZONES. FLASH
FLOODING IS LIKELY WITH RIVER FLOODING EARLY IN THE WEEK.
WITHIN THE INTENSE TROPICAL RAIN BANDS...PERIODS OF TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE WARNING AREA...ESPECIALLY ALONG
THE COAST AND OVER THE COASTAL WATERS. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF
35 TO 40 MPH WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD OVER THE WARNING AREA LATE
TONIGHT CONTINUING INTO MONDAY AS THE REMAINS OF TROPICAL STORM LEE
MOVES INTO WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA. ISOLATED TORNADO ARE ALSO POSSIBLE
IN THE RAIN BANDS.
DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND BREAKING WAVES IN THE SURF ZONE IN THE
GENERAL RANGE OF 5 TO 7 FEET ARE EXPECTED OVER THE WEEKEND. TIDES
WILL LIKELY RISE TO 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE PREDICTED LEVELS...PRODUCING
STORM SURGE HEIGHTS OF 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. THIS WILL
RESULT IN MINOR FLOODING OVER ROADWAYS ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST AND
ALONG BAYS AND SOUNDS. THE MOBILE BAY CAUSEWAY...THE CAUSEWAY BRIDGE
FROM THE MAINLAND TO DAUPHIN ISLAND... AND FORT PICKENS IN THE
WESTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE ARE A FEW AREAS THAT WILL BE PRONE TO MINOR
COASTAL FLOODING. THE MOST LIKELY TIME FRAME FOR COASTAL FLOODING
WILL BE EARLY SUNDAY AND MONDAY MORNINGS...COINCIDING WITH THE TIME
OF HIGH TIDE.
