TROPICAL STORM DON IS SLIGHTLY STRONGER AND THE NATIONAL HURRICANE
CENTER HAS SHIFTED THE FORECAST TRACK A BIT FURTHER SOUTH.
UPDATED FOR LATEST POSITION AND DETAILS.

THIS LOCAL STATEMENT PROVIDES IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR PEOPLE AND MARINE INTERESTS IN SELECT

MCMULLEN...LIVE OAK...BEE...GOLIAD...VICTORIA...DUVAL...JIM
WELLS...KLEBERG...NUECES...SAN PATRICIO...ARANSAS...REFUGIO AND
CALHOUN.
FOR MARINE INTERESTS...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR
ALL OF THE MIDDLE TEXAS COASTAL WATERS.

AT 10 PM CDT...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DON WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 24.7N...LONGITUDE 92.5W. THIS WAS ABOUT 360 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF PORT ARANSAS TX. STORM MOTION WAS WEST-NORTHWEST OR
290 DEGREES AT 14 MPH. STORM INTENSITY WAS 50 MPH.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL ARE
EXPECTED AS EARLY AS FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE MIDDLE TEXAS COASTAL
WATERS AND BY FRIDAY EVENING ALONG THE SOUTH TEXAS COAST. THESE
THREATS WILL THEN SHIFT INLAND FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY
MORNING AS TROPICAL STORM DON MAKES LANDFALL. DON IS GENERALLY
EXPECTED TO MOVE INLAND ALONG THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST FRIDAY NIGHT
BEFORE MOVING NORTHWEST TOWARD THE HILL COUNTRY THROUGH SATURDAY
AFTERNOON.
WHEN MAKING DECISIONS...DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT FORECAST TRACK.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL LIKELY EXTEND INLAND TOWARD THE
BRUSH COUNTRY BEFORE DON WEAKENS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 5
INCHES ARE EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY ALONG AND NORTHEAST OF THE STORMS
TRACK. ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL BE POSSIBLE. THIS WILL LIKELY
PRODUCE SOME MINOR FLOODING IN URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS
DESPITE THE ONGOING DROUGHT. SOUTH OF THE EYE RAINFALL TOTALS
COULD DECREASE RAPIDLY.
A GENERAL CONCERN SHOULD BE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGING WINDS
SOMEWHERE WITHIN SOUTH TEXAS...ESPECIALLY NEAREST THE CENTER OF
THE STORM TRACK.
MINOR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO OLDER OR UNANCHORED MOBILE HOMES.
RESIDENTS SHOULD MOVE LOOSE ITEMS INDOORS...SUCH AS GARBAGE CANS
AND OUTDOOR FURNITURE...AS THEY WILL BE BLOWN AROUND. MOSTLY ONLY
MINOR TREE DAMAGE IS EXPECTED WHILE NEWLY PLANTED...YOUNG TREES
AND SHRUBS MAY BE UPROOTED IF NOT SECURED PROPERLY. HOUSES OF POOR
TO AVERAGE CONSTRUCTION MAY RECEIVE MINOR DAMAGE TO
SHINGLES...SIDING...AND GUTTERS. SOME POWER LINES AND WIRES MAY
BE BLOWN DOWN CAUSING ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES THAT MAY AFFECT
ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS. WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS
ON BRIDGES AND CAUSEWAYS.

WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO AS EARLY AS FRIDAY EVENING. MAXIMUM WINDS
ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 30 TO 40 MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 50
TO 60 MPH.
...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED TO REACH 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL.
THIS WILL LIKELY CAUSE COMPLETE INUNDATION OF AREA BEACHES WITH
WATER REACHING INTO THE DUNES AND FLOODING ACCESS ROADS. FLOODING
OF BEACH AREAS ON SAINT JOSEPH ISLAND MAY OCCUR WITH MINOR
FLOODING OF BEACHES AT ROCKPORT...FULTON AND FULTON BEACH.
ALSO...WATER MAY COME OVER AVENUE A AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS OF
NORTH BEACH. BAIT STANDS ON LAGUNA MADRE ALONG LAGUNA SHORES DRIVE
MAY FLOOD WITH WATER WELL OVER THE ROAD IN PLACES. IN
ADDITION...WATER MAY COVER LOW LYING SPOTS IN ROADS ALONG
MATAGORDA BAY FROM MAGNOLIA BEACH TO INDIANOLA...INCLUDING PARTS
OF HIGHWAY 316. MINOR FLOODING WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE IN LOWER
AREAS OF INGLESIDE ALONG THE BAY. ALONG WITH THE SURGE...WAVES
ASSOCIATED WITH DON WILL PRODUCE LARGE BREAKING WAVES AND
DANGEROUS SURF. A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS WILL DEVELOP ON
FRIDAY.

WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON. MAXIMUM WINDS
ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 35 TO 45 KNOT RANGE WITH GUSTS UP TO 60
KNOTS FRIDAY NIGHT. AS A RESULT...SEAS WILL BEGIN TO BUILD
BETWEEN 8 TO 12 FEET AS EARLY AS FRIDAY AFTERNOON. SEAS MAY REACH
BETWEEN 12 TO 15 FEET DURING THE PEAK OF THE STORM.
