AT 5 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IRENE WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 39.2N...LONGITUDE 74.5W. THIS WAS ABOUT 480 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF BAR HARBOR ME...OR ABOUT 550 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
EASTPORT ME. STORM MOTION WAS NNE OR 20 DEGREES AT 18 MPH. STORM
INTENSITY WAS 75 MPH.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
IRENE WILL CONTINUE NORTHWARD ALONG THE MID ATLANTIC COAST
TODAY AND MOVE INTO SOUTHWESTERN NEW ENGLAND THIS AFTERNOON. THE
STORM WILL THEN CONTINUE ON A NORTHEAST TRACK OVER WESTERN MAINE
TONIGHT AND THEN MOVE NORTH OF THE STATE ON MONDAY.
THE PRIMARY CONCERN IS FOR STRONG WIND GUSTS TONIGHT WHICH WILL
DOWN TREES AND POWER LINES AND RESULT IN SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.
ALONG THE COAST A 2 FOOT STORM SURGE CAN BE EXPECTED. THIS WILL BE
COMPOUNDED BY LARGE BREAKING WAVES WHICH COULD ADD AN ADDITIONAL 1
TO 2 FEET OF RUNUP ONTO BEACHES EXPOSED TO THE OPEN OCEAN.

SURGE IS POSSIBLE. ALONG BEACHES EXPOSED TO THE OPEN OCEAN AN
ADDITIONAL RUNUP OF 1.5 FEET IS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE LARGE INCOMING
WAVES. HIGH TIDE TONIGHT IS OF GREATEST CONCERN. AT BAR HARBOR AN
ASTRONOMICAL TIDE OF 12.5 FEET WILL OCCUR AT 10:52 PM THIS EVENING.
AN ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDE OF 20.9 FEET WILL OCCUR AT 11:03 PM IN
EASTPORT.
