FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON HURRICANE
IRENE...LOCATED ABOUT 30 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF NORFOLK VIRGINIA.
A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS JUST OFF THE WEST COAST OF
AFRICA IS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE. THIS WAVE IS SHOWING
SOME SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION...AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR
CONDUCIVE FOR ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE...20 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL
CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT ABOUT 10
MPH.
A SMALL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 220 MILES SOUTH OF
BERMUDA CONTINUES TO PRODUCE BURSTS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
HOWEVER...UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE EXTREMELY UNFAVORABLE FOR FURTHER
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM...AND IT HAS A LOW CHANCE...NEAR
0 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS
AS IT MOVES GENERALLY NORTHWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH. SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WITH SOME GUSTY WINDS COULD AFFECT BERMUDA ON
SATURDAY.
ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.
