.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
HURRICANE IRENE CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTH-NORTHEAST AND WILL AFFECT
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TONIGHT AND ESPECIALLY SUNDAY. BASED ON THE
CURRENT FORECAST TRACK...PEOPLE IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND SHOULD
PREPARE FOR A PERIOD OF STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS...HEAVY RAINFALL
AND THE LIKELIHOOD FOR COASTAL FLOODING ALONG THE SOUTH COAST.

IRENE IS A LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE. YOU WILL NOT NEED TO BE CLOSE
TO THE CENTER OF IRENE TO EXPERIENCE HIGHER WINDS AS IT MOVES
THROUGH SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND SUNDAY. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
WITH HURRICANE FORCE WIND GUSTS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY. HURRICANE FORCE GUSTS ARE
EXPECTED TO BE MORE FREQUENT ALONG THE SOUTH COAST OF RHODE
ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS WHERE THE WINDS WILL BE COMING
OFF THE WATER. THESE WIND SPEEDS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE WIDESPREAD
DAMAGE WITH DOWNED TREES AND POWER OUTAGES.

THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS FOR A WIDESPREAD 5 TO 10 INCHES OF
RAINFALL ACROSS INTERIOR SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND...WITH THE HIGHEST
AMOUNTS ACROSS THE EAST SLOPES OF THE BERKSHIRES. FARTHER EAST...
A WIDESPREAD RAINFALL OF 3 TO 6 INCHES IS EXPECTED. LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. A
FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.
LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS FOR YOUR LOCATION...AND BE
READY TO ACT IF FLOODING RAINS OCCUR.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

FINAL PREPARATIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY SHOULD BE
COMPLETED BEFORE CONDITIONS DETERIORATE. THE ONSET OF GUSTY WINDS
AND HEAVY RAINS CAN CAUSE OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES TO BECOME DANGEROUS.
EVACUATE IF DIRECTED TO DO SO BY LOCAL OFFICIALS...OR IF YOUR
HOME IS VULNERABLE TO HIGH WINDS OR FLOODING. IDEALLY ALL
PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE COMPLETED BEFORE DARK.

FOR INTERESTS AT PORTS...DOCKS...AND MARINAS...URGENTLY COMPLETE
PRESCRIBED PREPARATIONS ACCORDING TO YOUR EMERGENCY OPERATIONS
PLAN FOR TROPICAL CYCLONES. IF YOU LIVE ON A BOAT...MAKE FINAL
PREPARATIONS FOR SECURING YOUR CRAFT BEFORE LEAVING IT. BE SURE
TO ACCOUNT FOR THE POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF BRIDGES AND CAUSEWAYS.
ALL SMALL CRAFT SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AND WELL SECURED.

FOR ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONARY AND PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION...
PLEASE REFER TO THE DETAILED RECOMMENDATIONS RELATIVE TO YOUR
LOCATION AS FURTHER DESCRIBED BY YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
