LATITUDE 27.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 85.6 WEST OR ABOUT 310 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF BILOXI MISSISSIPPI. DENNIS IS MOVING NORTHWEST NEAR 14
MPH AND A GRADUAL TURN TOWARDS THE NORTH NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED TODAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 135 MPH. DENNIS IS A CATEGORY FOUR
HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR SIMPSON SCALE. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING

THIS MORNING. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS...74 MPH OR GREATER...ARE LIKELY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY SUNDAY EVENING ACROSS THE MISSISSIPPI
COUNTIES...WITH WIND IN EXCESS OF 100 MPH POSSIBLE IN JACKSON
COUNTY IF THE HURRICANE EYEWALL PASSES NEARBY.
FOR EXTREME SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF
45 TO 55 MPH COULD OCCUR OVER THE AREA ON SUNDAY AND SUNDAY
EVENING. WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE AREA ON SUNDAY AS
THE WESTERN PERIPHERY OF POWERFUL HURRICANE DENNIS MOVES BY THE AREA.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS AND WIND GUSTS OF THIS MAGNITUDE MAY DOWN
TREE BRANCHES...RESULTING IN DOWNED POWER LINES AND POWER OUTAGES.

FOR THE MISSISSIPPI COAST...A 3 TO 5 FOOT STORM SURGE IS LIKELY. IF
THE HURRICANE LANDFALL SHIFTS WESTWARD A MUCH GREATER STORM SURGE
WILL OCCUR OVER THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI COAST. A STORM
SURGE POTENTIAL OF 12 TO 17 FEET IS POSSIBLE NEAR AND TO THE EAST
WHERE HURRICANE DENNIS MAKES LANDFALL. RESIDENTS OF THE MISSISSIPPI
COAST...PARTICULARLY HARRISON AND JACKSON COUNTIES...SHOULD BE
ESPECIALLY VIGILANT FOR EXTREME STORM SURGE POTENTIAL AND TAKE
NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS.
FOR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA A 2 TO 3 FOOT STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED EAST OF
THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND 1 TO 3 FOOT STORM SURGE COULD OCCUR IN
LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN SUNDAY AND SUNDAY EVENING. SOME FLOODING OF
LOW LYING AREAS OUTSIDE HURRICANE PROTECTION LEVEES IS POSSIBLE OVER
AREAS EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI...AND IN LOW LYING AREAS AROUND LAKE
PONTCHARTRAIN.

IS POSSIBLE ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI COAST...ESPECIALLY IN JACKSON
