FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON STRENGTHENING
TROPICAL STORM KATRINA...LOCATED IN THE FLORIDA STRAITS ABOUT 55
MILES EAST OF FORT LAUDERDALE FLORIDA.
A LARGE TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED MIDWAY BETWEEN AFRICA AND THE
LESSER ANTILLES IS MOVING WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM REMAINS POORLY ORGANIZED...
AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS REMAIN ONLY MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR
DEVELOPMENT. THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR THE SYSTEM TO BECOME
A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...AS IT MOVES
TOWARD THE WEST OR WEST-NORTHWEST OVER THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC.
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY EXTENDING FROM HISPANIOLA NORTHWARD INTO THE
ATLANTIC FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES IS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL
WAVE AND AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE CURRENTLY
UNFAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT.
ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH
FRIDAY.
