LATITUDE 28.8 NORTH...LONGITUDE 82.6 WEST...OR NEAR CRYSTAL RIVER.
JEANNE IS MOVING NORTHWEST NEAR 12 MPH...AND A GRADUAL TURN TO THE
NORTH IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
...CURRENT RADAR INFORMATION...
BANDS OF HEAVY SQUALLS AROUND THE CENTER OF JEANNE CONTINUE FROM
WILDWOOD WESTWARD ACROSS CITRUS AND LEVY COUNTY INTO THE GULF OF
MEXICO...THEN CURVE SOUTH AND SOUTHWESTWARD ALONG THE COAST FROM
BAYPORT INTO THE TAMPA BAY AREA. LIGHTER BANDS ARE SCATTERED ACROSS
SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
...WIND IMPACTS...
SUSTAINED WIND REPORTS OF NEAR 50 MPH ARE BEING REPORTED ALONG THE
COAST FROM SARASOTA TO CEDAR KEY...WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH IN THE
STRONGEST SQUALLS. THE WINDS SHOULD SLOWLY COME DOWN IN THE TAMPA
BAY AREA THIS EVENING...BUT REMAIN STRONG ALONG THE NATURE COAST.
EXPECT SCATTERED LARGE TREES TO FALL...LARGE DEBRIS BLOCKING
ROADWAYS...AND KNOCKED DOWN POWER LINES. ALSO...SOME ROOF AND
MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
AS JEANNE MOVES NORTHWESTWARD THIS EVENING...WINDS WILL BECOME
ONSHORE AND BEGIN TO RAISE WATER LEVELS 3 TO 6 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE
LEVELS NORTH OF TAMPA BAY TONIGHT. WINDS ARE ALREADY ONSHORE FROM
TAMPA BAY SOUTH...AND THIS SHOULD PRODUCE SURGE VALUES OF 2 TO 4 FEET
ABOVE ASTRONOMICAL TIDES THIS EVENING.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 MORE INCHES IS POSSIBLE TONIGHT...ESPECIALLY IN
THE COASTAL AREAS FROM TAMPA BAY NORTHWARD. 1 TO 2 INCHES IS
POSSIBLE ELSEWHERE. A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM SARASOTA COUNTY
NORTH AND EAST. IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE IS
POSSIBLE...AND SOME MAIN THOROUGHFARES MAY BE CLOSED. SOME SMALL
STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL SURPASS BANK FULL. LARGER RIVERS WILL RISE.
SEVERAL AREA RIVERS ARE ALREADY ABOVE FLOOD STAGE. RESIDENTS WHO LIVE
NEAR RIVERS SHOULD PREPARE FOR MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
WINDS AND SEAS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE OVER THE GULF MAKING
CONDITIONS VERY HAZARDOUS TODAY. ALL MARINERS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT.
...TORNADO IMPACTS...
THE THREAT FOR TORNADOES HAS DECREASED AS JEANNE HAS WEAKENED AND
MOVED NORTHWARD...BUT AN ISOLATED TORNADO IS STILL POSSIBLE IN THE
STRONGEST BANDS THAT MOVE INTO THE COAST FROM THE GULF OVERNIGHT.
...SHELTER AND ROAD STATUS...
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR SHELTER AND
ROAD STATUS.
THE NEXT HURRICANE LOCAL STATEMENT FROM THE TAMPA BAY AREA FORECAST
OFFICE WILL BE ISSUED BY 9 PM...OR SOONER IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.
