AT 11 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE JEANNE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 27.9
NORTH...LONGITUDE 82.0 WEST. THIS LOCATION IS 30 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF TAMPA.
JEANNE IS MOVING WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 10 MPH. A GRADUAL TURN TO THE NORTHWEST IS

HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
CLEAN UP EFFORTS...ESPECIALLY THOSE INVOLVING GETTING ONTO ROOFS OR LADDERS...
SHOULD WAIT UNTIL GUSTY WINDS SUBSIDE LATE TODAY OR MONDAY.
DOWNED POWER LINES CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. SHOULD YOU SPOT A DOWNED POWER
LINE STAY AWAY! IT IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS IF IT IS CLOSE TO STANDING WATER.
DOWNED TREES WILL BE BLOCKING ROADS ACROSS PALM BEACH COUNTY AND THE LAKE
OKEECHOBEE REGION FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. BE CAREFUL WHEN USING POWER SAWS TO
REMOVE TREES...ESPECIALLY IF UNFAMILIAR WITH THEIR OPERATION. TRAFFIC LIGHTS
WILL BE OUT OVER A LARGE PART OF METRO PALM BEACH AND EXTREME NORTH BROWARD
COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE LAKE OKEECHOBEE REGION. TREAT INTERSECTIONS WITH NO
FUNCTIONING TRAFFIC LIGHTS AS A FOUR WAY STOP. PROCEED INTO THE INTERSECTION
ONLY WHEN THE WAY IS CLEAR AND THE RIGHT OF WAY IS IN YOUR FAVOR. COURTESY TO
OTHER DRIVERS PREVENTS ACCIDENTS.
GENERATORS SHOULD ONLY BE OPERATING IN WELL VENTILATED AREAS...NEVER IN
ENCLOSED GARAGES OR SMALL SPACES. EVERY HURRICANE EVENT CAUSES SEVERAL CARBON
MONOXIDE DEATHS...ALWAYS PROVIDE PLENTY OF VENTILATION FOR GENERATORS.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
SOUTH WINDS GUSTING TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE AT TIMES OVER THE ATLANTIC
COASTAL WATERS WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE HIGH SURF WITH POUNDING WAVES AND
CONTINUED BEACH EROSION THROUGHOUT THE REST OF TODAY BUT SHOULD BE DIMINISHING
TONIGHT.
FOR LAKE OKEECHOBEE...THE AVERAGE LEVEL WAS NEAR 16 FEET ON SUNDAY
MORNING. SOUTH WINDS ARE PUSHING WATER TOWARD THE NORTH COAST OF THE LAKE FROM
TAYLOR SLOUGH TO THE TOWNS OF OKEECHOBEE AND BUCKHEAD RIDGE. THE PEAK STORM TIDE
OF 21 TO 22 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL IS LIKELY OCCURRING AT MIDDAY AND WILL
BEGIN TO DECREASE THIS AFTERNOON AS WINDS DECREASE. ALL AREAS OUTSIDE PROTECTION
OF THE HOOVER DIKE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE LAKE WILL BE FLOODED. WATER LEVELS
WILL GENERALLY FALL ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LAKE...BUT AS WATER DECREASES
ALONG THE NORTH SHORE IT WILL SLOSH BACK TO THE SOUTH SHORE THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE HOOVER DIKE PROTECTS INHABITED AREAS TO MORE THAN 30
FEET.
FOR THE SOUTHWEST GULF COAST...STORM TIDES ARE NEAR THEIR PEAK OF 2 TO 4
FEET ABOVE NORMAL AND WILL RECEDE THIS AFTERNOON AS ASTRONOMICAL TIDES
AND STORM SURGE BOTH DECREASE.
