AT 5 AM EDT...THE EYE OF HURRICANE JEANNE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE
26.5 NORTH...LONGITUDE 76.2 WEST OR ABOUT 400 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST
OF TAMPA. THIS IS ALSO 240 MILES OFFSHORE OF SOUTHEAST FLORIDA.
JEANNE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AT 14 MPH...AND THIS GENERAL MOTION
IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 12 TO 24 HOURS. HURRICANE HUNTER
AIRCRAFT INDICATE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NOW NEAR 105 MPH WITH
HIGHER GUSTS. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24
HOURS AND JEANNE COULD BECOME A MAJOR HURRICANE LATER TODAY.

SOUTHEAST FLORIDA COAST.

HURRICANE JEANNE IS FORECAST TO MOVE TO NEAR LAKE OKEECHOBEE LATE
TONIGHT...THEN INTO NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA BY SUNDAY EVENING.
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE IN SEBRING BY 4 AM TONIGHT...WITH
THE WINDS SPREADING NORTHWARD INTO SUMTER COUNTY BY NOON. TROPICAL
FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO SPREAD NORTH ALONG THE GULF COAST
SUNDAY MORNING.
SOME MOBILE HOMES COULD EXPERIENCE MODERATE TO SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.
HOUSES OF POOR TO AVERAGE CONSTRUCTION WILL HAVE DAMAGE TO
SHINGLES...SIDING...AND GUTTERS. SOME WINDOWS WILL BE BLOWN OUT. MANY
LANAI SCREENS AND POOL CAGES WILL BE DAMAGED. UNFASTENED HOME ITEMS
OF LIGHT TO MODERATE WEIGHT WILL BECOME AIRBORNE...CAUSING ADDITIONAL
DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE INJURY. TREES WILL BE UPROOTED AND DOZENS OF
WIRES WILL BE BLOWN DOWN. LOCAL POWER OUTAGES WILL AFFECT ENTIRE
NEIGHBORHOODS.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
AS JEANNE MOVES NORTHWARD SUNDAY...WINDS WILL BECOME ONSHORE AND
BEGIN TO RAISE WATER LEVELS 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE NORMAL...BUT MAINLY
ALONG NORTH AND NORTHWEST FACING SHORELINES.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
THE CURRENT FORECAST MOVEMENT OF JEANNE WILL KEEP THE HEAVIEST
RAINFALL OF 6 TO 10 INCHES OVER CENTRAL AND EASTERN PARTS OF
FLORIDA...INCLUDING HIGHLANDS...POLK AND SUMTER COUNTIES. THE
HEAVIEST AND MOST CONTINUOUS RAINS WILL BE FROM AFTER MIDNIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE
POSSIBLE IN THE COASTAL COUNTIES.
A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA. IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...
SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE...AND SOME MAIN THOROUGHFARES MAY BE
CLOSED. SOME SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL SURPASS BANK FULL. LARGER
RIVERS WILL RISE.

WINDS AND SEAS WILL INCREASE OVER THE GULF MAKING CONDITIONS
HAZARDOUS LATER TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

THE PRIMARY AREA FOR TORNADO DEVELOPMENT IN TROPICAL SYSTEMS IS THE
RIGHT FRONT QUADRANT OF THE STORM. AS JEANNE MOVES NORTHWESTWARD
OVER THE PENINSULA...THAT PART OF THE STORM WILL AFFECT FLORIDA'S
EAST COAST AND THEREFORE THE TORNADO THREAT IS LESSENED FOR WEST
CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
