   MISSISSIPPI RIVER WESTWARD ACROSS THE LOUISIANA COAST...

THIS STATEMENT IS PRIMARILY FOR FOLLOWING PARISHES IN SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA...LOWER PLAQUEMINES...LOWER JEFFERSON...LAFOURCHE AND
TERREBONNE AND ASSUMPTION.

...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA
COASTAL AREAS FROM THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WESTWARD
INCLUDING GRAND ISLE.

...STORM INFORMATION SUMMARY...
AT 400 AM CDT...TROPICAL STORM IVAN WAS LOCATED AT 28.2 NORTH AND
91.6 WEST OR ABOUT 110 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF HOUMA. IVAN IS MOVING
TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST 15 MPH.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  SOME
STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST PRIOR TO LANDFALL WITHIN THE NEXT 24
HOURS.

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
RESIDENTS IN WARNING AREA SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR ABOVE NORMAL
TIDES...WIND GUSTS TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE...40 MPH OR HIGHER...AND
OCCASIONAL HEAVY RAIN. RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING COASTAL AREA SHOULD
TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT PROPERTY EXPOSED TO TIDAL FLOODING.

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE CURRENTLY 1 TO 2 ABOVE NORMAL. PERSISTENT STRONG EAST TO
SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL CAUSE TIDES TO RANGE FROM 1 TO 3 FEET ABOVE
NORMAL THROUGH TODAY IN THE WARNING AREA. SOME LOW LYING AREAS AND
ROADWAYS MAY FLOOD EARLY TODAY AT THE TIME OF NEXT ASTRONOMICAL HIGH
TIDE.

...WIND IMPACTS....
EAST WINDS AT 35 MILES AN HOUR REPORTED AT THE BURWOOD AUTOMATED
WEATHER PLATFORM.  EAST TO SOUTHEAST WIND OF 25 TO 35 MPH WILL
PREVAIL ALONG THE COASTAL AREAS OF THE WARNING AREA THIS MORNING.
WIND GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH MAY OCCUR AS SQUALLS MOVE ONTO THE
IMMEDIATE COASTAL AREAS EARLY TODAY.

...RAINFALL...
RADAR SHOWED RAIN AND OCCASIONAL SQUALLS EXTENDING FROM THE
MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WEST TO LOWER TERREBONNE PARISH.
RAINFALL OF 3 TO 5 INCHES IS TODAY. FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS AND
ROADWAYS MAY OCCUR DUE TO THE HEAVY RAINFALL. A FLOOD WATCH IS IN
EFFECT.
