BAPTIST...ST TAMMANY...TANGIPAHOA...TERREBONNE.
AND THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN MISSISSIPPI...HANCOCK...HARRISON...

A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE MISSISSIPPI GULF
COAST AND ALONG THE LOUISIANA COAST FROM GRAND ISLE EASTWARD
INCLUDING LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. THIS INCLUDES THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS
AREA AND THE CITIES OF BILOXI AND GULFPORT.
A HURRICANE WATCH AND TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FROM WEST OF GRAND ISLE WESTWARD TO MORGAN CITY
LOUISIANA. THIS INCLUDES THE GREATER BATON ROUGE AREA AND THE
PARISHES AROUND LAKE MAUREPAS.
...STORM INFORMATION SUMMARY...
AT 1000 PM CDT...THE EYE OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR 29.3
NORTH AND 88.1 WEST...ABOUT 65 MILES SOUTH OF THE ALABAMA COASTLINE.
IVAN IS MOVING JUST EAST OF NORTH AT 12 MILES AN HOUR. ON THE
FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF IVAN IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE COAST
EARLY THURSDAY.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 135 MILES AN HOUR WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. IVAN REMAINS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE.
IVAN IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL AS A MAJOR HURRICANE...AT LEAST A
CATEGORY THREE.

EVACUATIONS AND PREPARATIONS FOR A MAJOR HURRICANE SHOULD HAVE BEEN
COMPLETED.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE CURRENTLY 3 TO 5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL IN HANCOCK AND
HARRISON COUNTIES IN COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. TIDES OF 10 FEET OR
HIGHER ARE EXPECTED IN JACKSON COUNTY WHICH IS CLOSER TO WHERE THE
EYE OF HURRICANE IVAN IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL LATE TONIGHT.
TIDES ARE RUNNING 8 TO 10 FEET ABOVE NORMAL IN LOWER PLAQUEMINES
PARISH EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. ELSEWHERE EAST OF THE
MISSISSIPPI RIVER STORM TIDES ARE 6 TO 8 FEET ABOVE NORMAL IN UPPER
PLAQUEMINES...ST BERNARD AND ORLEANS PARISHES.
STORM TIDE VALUES OF 3 TO 5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL ARE EXPECTED IN LAKE
PONTCHARTRAIN. WHILE STORM TIDE VALUES OF 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE NORMAL
CAN BE EXPECTED ON THE BAY SIDE OF GRAND ISLE AND LOWER LAFOURCHE
PARISH.
LARGE BATTERING WAVES WILL ACCOMPANY THE STORM SURGE.
...WIND IMPACTS....
EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL
CONTINUE OVER PARISHES ADJACENT TO LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. LAKEFRONT
AIRPORT IN NEW ORLEANS REPORTED WIND GUSTS OF 53 MPH BETWEEN 6 AND
8 PM CDT. AN ELEVATED NOAA AUTOMATED WIND STATION AT BURAS...REPORTED
AN 89 MPH WIND GUST AT 7 PM CDT. WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE
REGION THROUGH THE EVENING.
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS...WINDS IN EXCESS 74 MPH...WILL OVERSPREAD
COASTAL MISSISSIPPI THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT...WITH THE HIGHEST
WINDS LIKELY TO OCCUR ACROSS JACKSON COUNTY. HURRICANE FORCE WIND
GUSTS MAY WILL ALSO AFFECT AREAS OF COASTAL SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FROM
THE NEW ORLEANS METRO AREA THROUGH PLAQUEMINES PARISH OVERNIGHT.
CONSIDERABLY HIGHER WIND GUSTS CAN BE ALSO EXPECTED IN HIGH RISE
BUILDINGS AND ELEVATED BRIDGES AND ROADWAYS.
...HEAVY RAINFALL...
RAINBANDS WITH HEAVY RAIN HAVE SPREAD INTO COASTAL MISSISSIPPI AND
EXTREME SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA TONIGHT. STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10
INCHES ARE LIKELY OVER EXTREME SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...AND AROUND 10
INCHES OF RAIN IS EXPECTED OVER COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. RIVER FLOODING
MAY DEVELOP FROM THE HEAVY RAIN.
...TORNADOES...
ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE LATER TONIGHT AS HURRICANE IVAN
APPROACHES THE COAST. THE MOSTLY LIKELY THREAT WILL BE ALONG
THE MISSISSIPPI COAST AND COASTAL AREAS EAST AND SOUTHEAST OF NEW
ORLEANS.
