AT 800 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 23.1 NORTH...LONGITUDE 86.1 WEST...OR ABOUT 115 MILES
NORTHWEST OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. THIS IS ABOUT 285 MILES WEST
SOUTHWEST OF KEY WEST. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 160
MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES IVAN A DANGEROUS CATEGORY FOUR
HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. ADDITIONAL SLIGHT WEAKENING
IS ANTICIPATED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IVAN WAS MOVING TOWARD THE
NORTH NORTHWEST NEAR 9 MPH. THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE WAS ESTIMATED AT
925 MB...OR 27.31 INCHES OF MERCURY.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
SEAS WILL CONTINUE AT EIGHT TO TWELVE FEET BEYOND THE REEF AND TWO
TO FOUR FEET INSIDE THE REEF...THEN BEGIN TO SLOWLY SUBSIDE
BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON. MARINERS SHOULD MONITOR KEY WEST NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE MARINE FORECASTS FOR FURTHER UPDATES. THE BRIDGES AT
SNAKE CREEK AND JEWFISH CREEK WILL BE LOCKED IN THE DOWN
POSITION...AND THUS CLOSED TO MARINE VESSEL TRAFFIC UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE.

FOR THE LOWER AND MIDDLE KEYS...SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 20 MPH WITH
GUSTS TO 45 MPH IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS CAN BE EXPECTED TODAY.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
NO SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED IN THE KEYS WITH THE PASSAGE
OF HURRICANE IVAN. HOWEVER...HIGH TIDES IN THE LOWER KEYS COULD RUN
UP TO ONE FOOT ABOVE NORMAL TODAY. THIS MAY CAUSE SOME MINOR
OVERWASH ONTO STREETS AND SHORES ALONG THE ATLANTIC-FACING COASTLINE
NEAR HIGH TIDE...AND MAINLY IN THE LOWER KEYS. THE NEXT HIGH TIDE IN
KEY WEST HARBOR WILL OCCUR AT 1030 AM THIS MORNING.

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM
THE SEVEN MILE BRIDGE WESTWARD TO THE DRY TORTUGAS.
