MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER FOR RESIDENTS OF THE KEYS. HOWEVER...ANY
PERSON RE-ENTERING THE KEYS SHOULD USE CAUTION AS A FEW RAINBANDS
WILL BRING STRONG...GUSTY WINDS AND PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN TODAY
THROUGH TUESDAY. ALSO...AS FISHERMANS HOSPITAL IN MARATHON WILL OPEN

AT 800 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 20.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 84.1 WEST...OR ABOUT 110 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHEAST OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. THIS IS ABOUT 320 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHWEST OF KEY WEST. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 160
MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES IVAN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME
FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE LIKELY DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IVAN
WAS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 9 MPH...AND A TURN TOWARD
THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. DEPENDING ON THE
EXACT MOTION...THE CENTER COULD MISS THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA AND
COULD EVEN MOVE NEAR THE NORTHEASTERN YUCATAN PENINSULA DURING THE
NEXT 24 HOURS. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE WAS ESTIMATED AT 919 MB...OR
27.14 INCHES OF MERCURY.
...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
A TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM THE
SEVEN MILE BRIDGE WESTWARD TO THE DRY TORTUGAS. THE WATCH MAY BE
LOWERED LATER TODAY.
...WIND IMPACTS...
CURRENTLY...AN OUTER RAINBAND FROM HURRICANE IVAN ARE SPREADING OVER
THE LOWER KEYS...AND WILL REACH THE MIDDLE KEYS LATER THIS MORNING.
WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE. OTHERWISE...SUSTAINED WINDS
OF 20 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THE
KEYS. SUSTAINED SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE 25 TO 30 MILES PER
HOUR BY THIS EVENING...ESPECIALLY IN THE LOWER KEYS AND DRY
TORTUGAS...WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH POSSIBLE IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
NO SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED IN THE KEYS WITH THE PASSAGE
OF HURRICANE IVAN. HOWEVER...HIGH TIDES IN THE LOWER KEYS COULD RUN
AROUND ONE FOOT ABOVE NORMAL TODAY AND TONIGHT. THIS MAY CAUSE SOME
MINOR OVERWASH ONTO STREETS ALONG THE ATLANTIC-FACING COASTLINE AT
THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE...AND MAINLY IN THE LOWER KEYS. THE NEXT
HIGH TIDES IN KEY WEST HARBOR WILL OCCUR AT 949 AM THIS
MORNING...AND 1031 PM THIS EVENING.
...PROBABILITY OF HURRICANE/TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS...
THE PROBABILITY THAT HURRICANE IVAN WILL PASS WITHIN 75 MILES OF
KEY WEST IS FIVE PERCENT.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
SEAS ARE EXPECTED TO BUILD TO NINE TO TWELVE FEET OUTSIDE THE REEF
AND TWO TO FOUR FEET INSIDE THE REEF BY THIS EVENING. MARINERS
SHOULD MONITOR FORECASTS UNTIL THE HURRICANE IVAN THREAT HAS PASSED.
SMALL CRAFT SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT.
