AT 800 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 15.2 NORTH...LONGITUDE 72.8 WEST...OR ABOUT 325 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF KINGSTON JAMAICA. THIS IS ABOUT 900 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
KEY WEST.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 150 MILES AN HOUR...MAKING IVAN A
CATEGORY FOUR ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. IT WAS MOVING TOWARD THE
WEST NORTHWEST AT 13 MILES AN HOUR. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE WAS
ESTIMATED AT 923 MB...OR 27.26 INCHES.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
MONROE COUNTY HAS ALREADY INITIATED AN EVACUATION OF VISITORS AND
NON-RESIDENTS INCLUDING ALL RECREATIONAL VEHICLES.
A PHASED MANDATORY EVACUATION OF KEYS RESIDENTS WILL COMMENCE ON
FRIDAY. HERE IS HOW IT WILL WORK.
AT 700 AM...THOSE FROM KEY WEST TO THE 7-MILE BRIDGE SHOULD EVACUATE.
AT NOON...RESIDENTS OF THE MIDDLE KEYS SHOULD EVACUATE.
AT 400 PM...RESIDENTS OF THE UPPER KEYS SHOULD EVACUATE.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RE-ENTRY PERMIT.
THE SHELTER FOR MONROE COUNTY IS LOCATED AT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL
UNIVERSITY. TAKE U.S. 1 NORTH TO THE TURNPIKE...THEN EXIT EAST ON
S.W. 8TH STREET. FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO THE SHELTER...WHICH WILL BE OPEN
AT 500 PM FRIDAY.
SHELTERS IN THE KEYS WILL NOT BE OPEN.
FOR THOSE NOT GOING TO THE F I U SHELTER...THE TURNPIKE IS THE
SUGGESTED ROUTE.
YOU MAY LEAVE EARLY IF YOU WISH.
