THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY RESIDENTS OF THE
MARIANA ISLANDS.

...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
A TYPHOON WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR GUAM...ROTA...TINIAN...SAIPAN AND
AGRIHAN.

...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 9 PM GUAM LST..11Z..THE CENTER OF TYPHOON CHABA WAS LOCATED BY
RADAR NEAR LATITUDE 14.3 DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 145.7 DEGREES
EAST.
THIS IS ABOUT 90 MILES NORTHEAST OF GUAM
              35 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF ROTA
              50 MILES SOUTH OF TINIAN
              55 MILES SOUTH OF SAIPAN
             235 MILES SOUTH OF ALAMAGAN
             260 MILES SOUTH OF PAGAN
             310 MILES SOUTH OF AGRIHAN.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE 120 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 150 MPH. ALTHOUGH
THE PAST HOUR HAS SEEN A SLOW DOWN IN THE FORWARD MOTION OF THE
TYPHOON...THE OVERALL MOTION IS STILL WEST AT 12 MPH.

GUAM IS IN CONDITION OF READINESS 1. STAY IN SAFE SHELTER UNTIL THE
DANGEROUS CONDITIONS SUBSIDE.

...WIND INFORMATION...
DAMAGING NORTHWEST WINDS 55 TO 65 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 80 MPH BEFORE
SUBSIDING ON MONDAY. WINDS MAY BE HIGHER DEPENDING ON THE EXACT
POSITION OF THE EYEWALL.  PEAK WIND AT THE GUAM INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT WAS WEST AT 56 MPH.  ANDERSEN AFB REPORTED WEST WINDS 52 MPH
GUSTING TO 64 MPH.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION AND COASTAL INUNDATION...
HAZARDOUS SURF WILL INCREASE TO 17 TO 19 FEET. SEVERE RIP CURRENTS
WILL OCCUR INSIDE THE REEFS. INUNDATION OF 5 TO 6 FEET IS EXPECTED
ON SOUTHERN CLOCKWISE THROUGH NORTHEASTERN COASTAL AREAS.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
UP TO 15 INCHES OF RAIN ARE EXPECTED. FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS ARE ALREADY OCCURRING AND WILL CONTINUE INTO
MONDAY. MUDSLIDES ARE POSSIBLE. EVACUATE TO HIGHER GROUND IF
NECESSARY.

...ROTA...TINIAN AND SAIPAN...
ROTA...TINIAN AND SAIPAN ARE IN CONDITION OF READINESS 1. THIS IS A
VERY DANGEROUS TYPHOON. STAY IN SAFE SHELTER UNTIL THE DANGEROUS
CONDITIONS SUBSIDE.

RADAR IMAGERY SHOWS THE EYE OF THE TYPHOON HEADING TOWARDS THE
TINIAN CHANNEL. THE STRONGEST PART OF THE TYPHOON...THE EYEWALL...IS
OVER ROTA.  ALTHOUGH TINIAN AND SAIPAN REMAIN ON THE FRINGE OF THE
EYEWALL...A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE TRACK MAY BRING STRONGER WINDS OVER
THOSE ISLANDS. TYPHOON FORCE WINDS OVER THE ISLANDS WILL LAST FOR
SEVERAL HOURS. IN THE EVENT OF AN EYE PASSAGE WHERE WINDS MAY BECOME
VERY LIGHT...RESIDENTS MUST REMAIN IN SHELTER.  IT WILL BE ONLY A
MATTER OF MINUTES TO TENS OF MINUTES WHEN WINDS WILL RAPIDLY PICK UP
FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

...WIND INFORMATION...
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS 60 TO 80 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 105 MPH INCREASING TO
100 TO 110 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 140 MPH. A PEAK WIND OF 135 MPH AT
THE ROTA AIRPORT WAS REPORTED BY THE AUTOMATED WEATHER STATION. 8 PM
WIND OBSERVATIONS FROM TINIAN AIRPORT WAS 58 MPH GUSTING TO 80 MPH
AND FROM SAIPAN AIRPORT 40 MPH GUSTING TO 63 MPH.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION AND COASTAL INUNDATION...
STORM SURGE 8 TO 11 FEET IS EXPECTED. HAZARDOUS SURF REACHING 23 TO
25 FEET TONIGHT. SEVERE RIP CURRENTS WILL OCCUR INSIDE THE REEFS.
INUNDATION OF COASTAL AREAS IS EXPECTED.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
UP TO 15 INCHES OF RAIN ARE EXPECTED.  FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND

EAST WINDS 25 TO 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 30 TO 40 MPH
WITH DAMAGING GUSTS TO 50 MPH TONIGHT BEFORE SUBSIDING ON MONDAY.

HAZARDOUS SURF WILL INCREASE TO 17 TO 19 FEET.
