...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 5 PM EDT...2100Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM CHARLEY WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 36.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 77.0 WEST OR ABOUT 75
MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF NORFOLK VIRGINIA.

CHARLEY IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 30 MPH AND A
GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE NORTHEAST IS EXPECTED ON SUNDAY. ON THIS
TRACK...CHARLEY WILL MOVE NEAR AND ALONG THE NORTHEASTERN U.S. COAST.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 70 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
CONTINUED WEAKENING IS FORECAST AS CHARLEY REMAINS OVER LAND.

THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1000 MB...29.53 INCHES.

...RAINFALL AND INLAND FLOODING...
RAINFALL TOTALS FOR TONIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING ARE EXPECTED
TO RANGE FROM 1 TO 4 INCHES. A FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR THE
POTENTIAL OF FLOODING ALONG RIVERS AND STREAMS THROUGHOUT THE
REGION. FLOODING IN AREAS OF POOR DRAINAGE IS ALSO LIKELY. PLEASE
REFER TO THE LATEST FLOOD WATCH STATEMENT FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

...STORM SURGE...WAVES AND TIDAL FLOODING...
GIVEN THE SPEED AND PROJECTED PATH OF TROPICAL STORM CHARLEY, THE
THREAT OF STORM SURGE AND TIDAL FLOODING IS MINIMAL. HOWEVER, SOME
MINOR TIDAL FLOODING IS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING AT THE TIME OF HIGH
TIDE.

...WIND INFORMATION...
WINDS SPEEDS WILL INCREASE TONIGHT AS CHARLEY APPROACHES THE AREA.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE THIS LATER THIS
EVENING AND COULD CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE STRONGEST WINDS
ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE COAST AND SOUTH AND EAST OF THE I-95 CORRIDOR.
SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF UP TO 30 MPH ARE EXPECTED INLAND WITH GUSTS
UP TO 40 MPH. OVER THE COASTAL WATERS, WIND SPEEDS ARE FORECAST TO
RANGE FROM 30 TO 40 KNOTS WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 KNOTS. BEING THAT THE
CENTER OF CHARLEY IS EXPECTED TO PASS OVER THE REGION THE WIND
DIRECTION WILL VARY. MOST INLAND LOCATIONS SHOULD HAVE A NORTHEAST
TO NORTH WIND AND THE COASTAL WATERS WILL LIKELY EXPERIENCE A
SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH WIND. THE WINDS MAY BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BRING DOWN
TREES AND POWER LINES...GIVEN HOW WET THE GROUND IS GIVEN RECENT
RAINS.

WIND SPEEDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

...RIP CURRENT INFORMATION...
THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE COAST THROUGH SUNDAY.
THESE DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS WILL BE LIFE THREATENING TO ANYONE WHO
ENTERS THE WATER.

RESIDENTS IN THE AFFECTED AREA SHOULD MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND
THE MEDIA FOR UPDATES ON HURRICANE CHARLEY. INFORMATION IS ALSO
AVAILABLE ON OUR WEB SITE AT HTTP://WEATHER.NOAA.GOV/PHI.
