A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE COAST OF SOUTH CAROLINA
AND NORTH CAROLINA.
AN INLAND HURRICANE WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR COLUMBUS AND
BLADEN COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA. AN INLAND TROPICAL
STORM WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FOLLOWING SOUTH CAROLINA

AT 8 AM EDT THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE
32.3 NORTH... LONGITUDE 79.7 WEST...ABOUT 80 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST
OF GEORGETOWN...100 MILES FROM MYRTLE BEACH...AND 150 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF SOUTHPORT NORTH CAROLINA.
CHARLEY WAS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH...AND A
GRADUAL INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 85 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS...MAINLY
EAST OF THE CENTER. SOME STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE BEFORE LANDFALL.
THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK MAKES LANDFALL NEAR BULLS BAY SOUTH
CAROLINA AROUND 10 AM.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH...WILL SOON SPREAD
INTO GEORGETOWN COUNTY...AND WILL SPREAD INTO NORTH CAROLINA
BY LATE MORNING.
THE AREA OF HURRICANE FORCE WINDS IS EXPECTED TO BE LESS THAN 40
MILES IN DIAMETER...AND WILL MOVE INTO GEORGETOWN COUNTY AROUND 10
AM...SPREADING NORTH INTO HORRY COUNTY...AND THEN INTO COLUMBUS AND
BLADEN COUNTIES EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THE DURATION OF
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS IN ANY LOCATION WILL LIKELY BE LESS
THAN 2 HOURS. TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH WINDS WILL DIMINISH FROM THE
SOUTH DURING THE AFTERNOON...LEAVING THE AREA BY LATE AFTERNOON.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
WINDS WILL BE ONSHORE ACROSS THE AREA. TIDES WILL BE 6 TO 8 FEET
ABOVE NORMAL ALONG THE SOUTH FACING BEACHES..RIVERS...CREEKS AND
SOUNDS OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY AND NORTHERN HORRY COUNTY...AROUND 4 TO 6
FEET ALONG THE EAST FACING BEACHES OF GEORGETOWN AND SOUTHERN HORRY
COUNTY...AND AROUND 2 FEET ON THE BEACHES OF NEW HANOVER AND PENDER
COUNTIES. FORTUNATELY...THE HIGHEST SURGE WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON
AT ABOUT THE TIME OF LOW TIDE...BETWEEN 1 AND 1:30 PM. MODERATE TO
SEVERE BEACH EROSION IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM.
...SEAS AND RIP CURRENTS...
SEAS AT 7 AM WERE BUILDING 4 FT...BUT WILL BUILD TO AT LEAST 10 TO 15
FEET...WITH DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS. MARINERS SHOULD STAY IN PORT.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
HEAVY SHOWERS ARE SPREADING INLAND. 3 TO 6 INCHES ACCUMULATION ARE
EXPECTED WITH CHARLEY. DUE TO THE RAINFALL FROM THE REMNANTS OF
BONNIE ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY...THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED IN
SOME AREAS. FLOODING IS EXPECTED IN AREAS WITH POOR DRAINAGE... ALONG
SMALL STREAMS AND IN LOW LYING AREAS.
