A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE COAST OF SOUTH CAROLINA
NORTH CAROLINA.
AN INLAND HURRICANE WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR COLUMBUS AND
BLADEN COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA. AN INLAND TROPICAL
STORM WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FOLLOWING SOUTH CAROLINA

AT 5 AM EDT THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE
31.2 NORTH... LONGITUDE 80.5 WEST...ABOUT 170 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST
OF GEORGETOWN...200 MILES FROM MYRTLE BEACH...AND 240 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF SOUTHPORT NORTH CAROLINA.
CHARLEY WAS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH...AND A
GRADUAL INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 85 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS...MAINLY
EAST OF THE CENTER. SOME STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE BEFORE LANDFALL.
THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK MAKES LANDFALL NEAR BULLS BAY SOUTH
CAROLINA AROUND 10 AM.

SOUTHEAST WINDS WERE AROUND 10 MPH ALONG THE SOUTH CAROLINA BEACHES
FROM GEORGETOWN TO THE NORTH. THERE IS THE THREAT OF TORNADOES
FORMING. AS THE CENTER OF CHARLEY APPROACHES...TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WINDS...IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH...WILL SPREAD INTO NORTHEAST SOUTH
CAROLINA AND INTO SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA FROM AFTER SUNRISE THROUGH
LATE MORNING. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS WILL AFFECT GEORGETOWN AND
HORRY COUNTIES COAST AROUND NOON...AND COLUMBUS AND BLADEN COUNTIES
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...CONTINUING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. TROPICAL
STORM STRENGTH WINDS WILL DIMINISH FROM THE SOUTH DURING THE
AFTERNOON...LEAVING THE AREA BY LATE AFTERNOON.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
WINDS WILL BE ONSHORE ACROSS THE AREA. TIDES WILL BE 6 TO 8 FEET
ABOVE NORMAL ALONG THE SOUTH FACING BEACHES..RIVERS...CREEKS AND
SOUNDS OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY AND NORTHERN HORRY COUNTY...AROUND 4 TO 6
FEET ALONG THE EAST FACING BEACHES OF GEORGETOWN AND SOUTHERN HORRY
COUNTY...AND AROUND 2 FEET ON THE BEACHES OF NEW HANOVER AND PENDER
COUNTIES. FORTUNATELY...THE HIGHEST SURGE WILL OCCUR AT ABOUT THE
TIME OF LOW TIDE...BETWEEN 1 AND 1:30 PM ACROSS THE AREA. MODERATE TO
SEVERE BEACH EROSION IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM.
...SEAS AND RIP CURRENTS...
SEAS AT 5 AM WERE AROUND 4 FT...BUT WILL BUILD TO AT LEAST 10 TO 15
FEET...WITH DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS. MARINERS SHOULD STAY IN PORT.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
SHOWERS ARE SPREADING INLAND...BUT HEAVIER RAIN IS STILL OFF THE
COAST AND WILL MOVE ASHORE OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS.
DUE TO THE RAINFALL FROM THE REMNANTS OF BONNIE ON THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY...THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED IN SOME AREAS. AN ADDITIONAL
3 TO 6 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE WITH CHARLEY. FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN
AREAS WITH POOR DRAINAGE...SMALL STREAMS AND LOW LYING AREAS.
