...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT THROUGH 4 AM SUNDAY MORNING
FOR THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER INCLUDING THE COASTAL
COUNTIES ALONG THE BAY AND THE TIDAL POTOMAC...THE CITY OF
BALTIMORE... AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS SPECIFIC ACTIONS BE TAKEN BY RESIDENTS IN
THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES:
IN MARYLAND:
HARFORD...SOUTHERN BALTIMORE...ANNE ARUNDEL...PRINCE
GEORGES...CALVERT ...CHARLES...AND ST. MARYS COUNTIES...
AND THE CITY OF BALTIMORE.
IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA:
FAIRFAX...ARLINGTON...KING GEORGE..STAFFORD...AND PRINCE WILLIAM
COUNTIES...AND THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA.

A TROPICAL STROM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND THE
TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER AND THE ADJACENT COUNTIES. A FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO
IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN VIRGINIA..MOST OF MARYLAND AND THE EASTERN
PANHANDLE OF WEST VIRGINIA.

AT 4 AM EDT HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR 30.1 NORTH LATITUDE
AND 80.0 WEST LONGITUDE...MOVING NORTH-NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH. MINIMUM
CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 993 MB WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 85 MPH.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PERSONS LOCATED IN AND NEAR THE POSTED AREA SHOULD PREPARE FOR HIGH
WINDS AND COASTAL FLOODING.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
THE THREAT OF STORM SURGE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE AS TIDAL SURGES
REACH 2 TO 4 FEET ABOVE NORMAL. THE STORM SURGE WILL BE IN ADDITION
TO THE ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDE WHICH WILL OCCUR 8:18 PM EDT SATURDAY
AT WASHINGTON DC AND 6:39 PM AND 7:10 AM SUNDAY AT BALTIMORE HARBOR.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF 40 TO 50 MPH WILL BEGIN AFFECTING
LOWER SOUTHERN MARYLAND LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND SPREAD NORTH AS
HURRICANE CHARLEY APPROACHES THE MID ATLANTIC.
...RAINFALL IMPACTS...
NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAINFALL WILL
AFFECT THE REGION SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2
TO 4 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE...WITH SCATTERED HIGHER AMOUNTS.
...MARINE INFORMATION...
WAVES ALONG THE TIDAL POTOMAC AND THE NORTHERN CHESAPEAKE BAY ARE
ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING 1 TO 2 FT. AS WINDS INCREASE TODAY...WAVES
WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 5 FEET ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. MARINERS SHOULD
REMAIN IN PORT TODAY AND TONIGHT.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ADVISES RESIDENTS IN THE AFFECTED AREA
TO CONTINUE MONITORING NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND THE MEDIA FOR UPDATES
ON TROPICAL STROM CHARLEY.
THE NEXT SCHEDULED LOCAL STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED AT 11 AM EDT
UNLESS CONDITIONS WARRANT EARLIER RELEASES.
