THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS SPECIFIC ACTIONS BE TAKEN BY RESIDENTS OF
SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA.

...WATCHES/WARNINGS...

A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE GEORGIA COAST
AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST.

AN INLAND TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR EFFINGHAM
COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND ALL INLAND SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH
CAROLINA COUNTIES INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON. A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT
FOR ALL OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA THROUGH
TODAY.

...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 2 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 30.1 NORTH...LONGITUDE 80.8 WEST OR ABOUT 190 MILES
SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF CHARLESTON. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS CONTINUE NEAR
85 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS EXPECTED AS THE STORM
MOVES OVER THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. HURRICANE CHARLEY IS MOVING TO THE
NORTH NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH AND WILL INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED LATER
THIS MORNING.

ON THE CURRENT TRACK...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WILL MOVE WELL
OFF THE GEORGIA COAST OVER THE OFFSHORE WATERS AND CONTINUE NORTHEAST
TOWARD THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST SATURDAY MORNING. BASED ON THE
CURRENT LOCATION AND MOVEMENT OF CHARLEY...THE STORM WILL APPROACH
THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST BETWEEN CHARLESTON AND MYRTLE BEACH BY NOON
TODAY AS A CATEGORY ONE HURRICANE.

EVEN MINOR CHANGES IN THE FORECAST TRACK OF HURRICANE CHARLEY CAN
RESULT IN LARGE DIFFERENCES IN THE EXPECTED CONDITIONS. ALL CITIZENS
IN THE AFFECTED AREAS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS STORM VERY
CLOSELY.

A HURRICANE WARNING MEANS WINDS GREATER THAN 73 MPH ARE POSSIBLE.

AN INLAND TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING MEANS WINDS BETWEEN 39 MPH AND
73 MPH ARE LIKELY.

ALL PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS AND PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES SHOULD BE
COMPLETED BY NOW.

...WIND IMPACTS...
WINDS ARE ALREADY GUSTING TO NEAR TROPICAL STORM FORCE AT BUOY 41008.
ALONG THE NORTHERN GEORGIA COAST EARLY THIS MORNING...TROPICAL
STORM FORCE WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
ALONG THE SOUTH COAST OF SOUTH CAROLINA...WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
INCREASE 40 TO 50 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. OVER THE CENTRAL SOUTH
CAROLINA COAST ...WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 55 TO 70 MPH...WITH GUSTS IN
EXCESS OF 85 MPH...ESPECIALLY OVER COASTAL CHARLESTON COUNTY.

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
WITH THE CURRENT PROJECTED TRACK AND STRENGTH OF CHARLEY...WINDS WILL
BE OFFSHORE ALONG THE GEORGIA COAST AND FROM EDISTO BEACH SOUTH
CAROLINA SOUTHWARD. WINDS OVER CHARLESTON COUNTY WILL BE ONSHORE FOR
A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME. THEREFORE...TIDES ARE EXPECTED TO BE 2 TO 4
FEET ABOVE PREDICTED LEVELS FROM SAVANNAH SOUTHWARD AND 4 TO 8 FEET
ABOVE NORMAL FOR CHARLESTON COUNTY. MODERATE BEACH EROSION WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM.

...SEAS AND RIP CURRENTS...
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS AND SEAS BUILDING TO 16 FEET WILL DEVELOP OVER
THE COASTAL WATERS THROUGH TODAY. MARINERS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT.
DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ARE LIKELY AS THE STORM APPROACHES.

...FLOOD IMPACTS...
THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED IN SOME AREAS...ESPECIALLY THE
COASTAL COUNTIES. AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 5 INCHES IS FORECAST ALONG THE
PATH OF CHARLEY...WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE...MAINLY OVER
COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA.  SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PLACES
WITH POOR DRAINAGE...SMALL STREAMS AND LOW LYING AREAS.

...TORNADOES...
ISOLATED TORNADOES POSSIBLE THROUGH MIDDAY SATURDAY ALONG COASTAL
SOUTH CAROLINA.
