AT 7 PM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 27.7 NORTH...LONGITUDE 81.8 WEST OR ABOUT 115 MILES NORTH
NORTHEAST OF NAPLES OR 75 MILES NORTHWEST OF MOORE HAVEN. CHARLEY
IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED
WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO 115 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS MAKING CHARLEY A
CATEGORY THREE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE AND
FURTHER WEAKENING WILL CONTINUE.

WIND GUSTS OVER LAND IN THE NAPLES AREA HAVE DECREASED BELOW HURRICANE
STRENGTH. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ADVISES COLLIER RESIDENTS TO USE
EXTREME CAUTION WHEN VENTURING OUTDOORS. THE COLLIER COUNTY
INFORMATION LINE FOR RUMOR CONTROL...DAMAGE REPORTS AND INFORMATION

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
THE STORM TIDE ALONG THE GULF OF MEXICO COAST AND ITS TIDAL
ESTUARIES HAVE BEGUN TO RECEDE.

THE WATER IN LAKE OKEECHOBEE WILL SLOSH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN SHORES
FOR MUCH OF THE REMAINDER OF TONIGHT...RESULTING IN WATER LEVELS AS
MUCH AS 4 FEET HIGHER ALONG THESE SHORES. THE LAKE LEVEL THURSDAY
MORNING WAS ABOUT 12.6 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL...SO LAKE ELEVATIONS
ALONG THE NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEAST SHORES COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 17 FEET
TONIGHT. ALTHOUGH THE HOOVER DIKE EXTENDS ALMOST ALL THE WAY AROUND
LAKE OKEECHOBEE...BACKWATER MAY BE PUSHED WEST INTO THE FISHEATING
CREEK BASIN RESULTING IN SOME MINOR FLOODING ALONG THE MOUTH OF THE CREEK.

AT 6 PM THE WIND WAS GUSTING TO 48 MPH AT EVERGLADES CITY IN COLLIER
COUNTY. COLLIER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS REPORT POWER POLES
BLOWN DOWN IN NORTH NAPLES AND A RADIO TOWER BLOWN DOWN IN IMMOKALEE.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS IN HENDRY AND GLADES COUNTIES REPORT
ROOF DAMAGE AND NUMEROUS TREES DOWN. WINDS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE
STORM WERE ESTIMATED TO HAVE GUSTED TO 80 MPH. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND
GUSTS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE IN HENDRY AND GLADES COUNTIES FOR ANOTHER FEW
HOURS.

WINDS IN THE METRO AREAS OF MIAMI-DADE...BROWARD AND PALM BEACH
COUNTIES HAVE DECREASED TO 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 25 TO 30 MPH.

WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO TROPICAL STORM FORCE ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST
FLORIDA COASTAL WATERS BUT SMALL CRAFT SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT UNTIL
SEAS SUBSIDE.

WINDS IN THE MIAMI-DADE...BROWARD AND PALM BEACH ATLANTIC COASTAL
WATERS AND BISCAYNE BAY WILL BE NEAR 25 KNOTS WITH HIGHER GUSTS AND
A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT. RIP CURRENTS AND DANGEROUS
SURF CONDITIONS WILL MAKE SWIMMING OR SURFING IN THE GULF OF MEXICO
AND ATLANTIC OCEAN DANGEROUS.

AT VANDERBILT BEACH THROUGH 3 PM...7.48 INCHES OF RAIN WAS MEASURED
AND DOPPLER RADAR INDICATES STORM TOTALS NEAR 10 INCHES IN THE
NAPLES AREA. OTHER LOCALIZED RAINFALL TOTALS NEAR 6 INCHES HAVE BEEN
OBSERVED OVER INTERIOR SOUTH FLORIDA. SPIRAL BANDS WILL CONTINUE
THIS EVENING...WITH BURSTS OF TORRENTIAL RAIN IN SQUALLS. A FLOOD
WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT.

SEVERAL TORNADOES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN SOUTH FLORIDA DURING THE
AFTERNOON AND THE THREAT OF TORNADOES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 2 AM
