AN INLAND TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FOLLOWING

A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF NORTH FLORIDA AND SOUTHEAST
GEORGIA THROUGH SATURDAY.

AT 2 PM EDT THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 26.0 NORTH...LONGITUDE 82.4 WEST OR ABOUT 60 MILES
SOUTHWEST OF FT. MYERS FLORIDA.
CHARLEY IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 20 MPH. ON THIS
TRACK...THE CENTER OF CHARLEY SHOULD MAKE LANDFALL IN THE VICINITY
OF CHARLOTTE HARBOR FLORIDA LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 145 MPH WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE CONCENTRATED IN A VERY SMALL AREA
NEAR THE CENTER OF THE HURRICANE. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN WIND SPEED
MAY OCCUR BEFORE LANDFALL.
ERRORS IN THE FORECAST TRACK AT 18 HOURS ARE NEAR 80 MILES. INTERESTS
IN THE REGION...INCLUDING INLAND AREAS...SHOULD CONTINUE TO CLOSELY
MONITOR THE CURRENT PROGRESS OF HURRICANE CHARLEY AS WELL AS THE MOST
CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THEIR LOCAL EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCY. EXTENDED POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS SOME
PORTION OF THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT. INTERESTS IN THE
NORTH FLORIDA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AREA SHOULD HAVE FLASHLIGHTS...
BATTERIES AND A BATTERY OPERATED RADIO IN CASE OF POWER OUTAGE. NEVER
USE CANDLES DUE TO THE HIGH RISK OF FIRE. RESIDENTS SHOULD HAVE A
FULLY STOCKED HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS KIT IN PLACE. A SUPPLY OF
DRINKING WATER...BABY SUPPLIES AND ANY PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS ARE
THE HIGHEST PRIORITIES FOR YOUR KIT.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
CHARLEY IS NOW EXPECTED TO MOVE OFF THE FLORIDA EAST COAST WITH
A LONGER PERIOD OF ONSHORE WINDS. GENERAL STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 2
TO 4 FEET IS EXPECTED. A FEW AREAS ALONG THE GEORGIA COAST...MAINLY
IN BACK BAYS AND RIVERS...COULD SEE TIDES OF 4 TO 6 FEET ABOVE
NORMAL. INTERESTS WHO NORMALLY EXPERIENCE FLOODING DURING STRONG
NORTHEASTERS SHOULD SECURE PROPERTY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

MARION COUNTY WINDS....WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE AFTER SUNSET
AND SHOULD REACH 40 TO 60 MPH BETWEEN 9 PM AND MIDNIGHT. WINDS ARE
MAY INCREASE TO HURRICANE FORCE OVER EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE
COUNTY...ESPECIALLY OVER THE OCALA NATIONAL FOREST...BETWEEN MIDNIGHT
AND 3 AM. A GRADUAL DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 5 AM. IF
THE STORM CONTINUES ON A MORE EASTWARD TRACK A REVISION OF THE
FORECAST WINDFIELD MAY BE REQUIRED AND WIND WARNINGS FOR MARION
COUNTY MAY BE DISCONTINUED LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.
ALACHUA...BRADFORD...CLAY AND PUTNAM COUNTIES....WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO INCREASE AFTER SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 40 TO 60 MPH BETWEEN 10 PM
AND 1 AM. WINDS MAY BRIEFLY INCREASE TO HURRICANE FORCE...
ESPECIALLY IN GUSTS...OVER PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY BETWEEN MIDNIGHT
AND 2 AM. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OVER EASTERN PORTIONS OF CLAY AND
PUTNAM COUNTIES. A GRADUAL DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 4
AM. IF THE STORM CONTINUES ON A MORE EASTWARD TRACK A REVISION OF THE
FORECAST WINDFIELD MAY BE REQUIRED AND WIND WARNINGS FOR THESE
COUNTIES MAY BE DISCONTINUED LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.
ST JOHNS AND FLAGLER COUNTIES...WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE AFTER
SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 65 TO 75 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS BETWEEN 10 PM
AND 3 AM. A GRADUAL DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 5 AM.
DUVAL AND NASSAU COUNTIES...WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE AFTER
SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 55 TO 65 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE
ALONG THE BEACHES AND RIVER...BETWEEN 11 PM AND 3 AM. A GRADUAL
DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 6 AM.
CAMDEN AND GLYNN COUNTIES...WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE AFTER
SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 45 TO 55 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE
ALONG THE IMMEDIATE BEACHES...BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 2 AM. A GRADUAL
DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 8 AM.
BAKER...COLUMBIA...GILCHRIST AND UNION COUNTIES...WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO INCREASE AFTER SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 30 TO 40 MPH WITH
OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 50 MPH BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 6 AM. A GRADUAL
DECREASE IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 6 AM. IF THE STORM CONTINUES
ON A MORE EASTWARD TRACK A REVISION OF THE FORECAST WINDFIELD MAY BE
REQUIRED AND WIND WARNINGS FOR THESE COUNTIES MAY BE DISCONTINUED

TO INCREASE AFTER SUNSET AND SHOULD REACH 30 TO 40 MPH WITH
OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 50 MPH BETWEEN 2 AM AND 6 AM. A GRADUAL DECREASE
IN THE WINDS IS EXPECTED AFTER 6 AM. IF THE STORM CONTINUES ON A MORE
EASTWARD TRACK A REVISION OF THE FORECAST WINDFIELD MAY BE REQUIRED
AND WIND WARNINGS FOR THESE COUNTIES MAY BE DISCONTINUED LATER TODAY
OR TONIGHT.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS AND HIGH SEAS WILL DEVELOP OVER THE COASTAL
WATERS OVERNIGHT. MARINERS ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT AND SWIMMERS
SHOULD REMAIN OUT OF THE WATER. LARGE BREAKING WAVES ARE LIKELY NEAR
AND NORTH OF WHERE THE CENTER EXITS THE COAST. SIGNIFICANT BEACH
EROSION IS POSSIBLE.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH THE NIGHT IN
THE SUWANNEE VALLEY AREA AND PERIODS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
ASSOCIATED WITH GULF MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE EVENING HOURS
TODAY. AS THE HURRICANE MOVES NORTH...ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL IS
EXPECTED...WITH SEVERAL INCHES OF HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE AS
HURRICANE CHARLEY TRANSITS THE REGION BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. RIVER
LEVELS ARE CURRENTLY LOW AND...AT THIS TIME...NO SIGNIFICANT RIVER
FLOODING IS EXPECTED. FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IS POSSIBLE AND
INTERESTS IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS ARE ADVISED TO PREPARE FOR THIS
POSSIBILITY. A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF NORTH FLORIDA AND
SOUTHEAST GEORGIA THROUGH SATURDAY. AREAS OF THE LOWER AND
MIDDLE SUWANNEE VALLEY ARE NEAR SATURATION AND MAY EXPERIENCE
LOCALIZED SURFACE FLOODING PRIOR TO HURRICANE LANDFALL.

THERE WILL BE A POSSIBLE RISK OF ISOLATED TORNADOES THROUGH SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AS TROPICAL MOISTURE...A FRONTAL SYSTEM...AND APPROACHING
HURRICANE CHARLEY ALL INTERACT ACROSS THE REGION. TORNADOES CAN AND
DO FORM WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING...REMAIN ALERT FOR DETERIORATING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. STAY TUNED TO NOAA
WEATHER RADIO OR THE LOCAL MEDIA FOR POSSIBLE TORNADO WARNINGS.
