ALSO IN EFFECT FOR LAKE OKEECHOBEE...
...INLAND HURRICANE WIND WARNINGS ISSUED FOR ALL INTERIOR COUNTIES OF
EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA...
...AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS HURRICANE LOCAL STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN
BY RESIDENTS OF THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...VOLUSIA...LAKE...SEMINOLE...
ORANGE...BREVARD...OSCEOLA...INDIAN RIVER...SAINT LUCIE...MARTIN
AND OKEECHOBEE.
...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST
COAST FROM JUPITER INLET NORTHWARD.
AN INLAND HURRICANE WIND WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR LAKE...
SEMINOLE...ORANGE...WESTERN VOLUSIA...OSCEOLA...AND OKEECHOBEE
COUNTIES FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT.
A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA TODAY AND
TONIGHT.
A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR OSCEOLA...SOUTHERN BREVARD...
SOUTHERN OSCEOLA...INDIAN RIVER...OKEECHOBEE...MARTIN AND ST LUCIE
COUNTIES UNTIL 5PM.
...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 1PM AM EDT THE CENTER OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS ABOUT 240 MILES
SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF ORLANDO FLORIDA MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NORTHEAST
NEAR 18 MPH.
...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
THE TRACK OF HURRICANE CHARLEY HAS BEEN SHIFTING MORE TO THE RIGHT
TODAY INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WINDS OVER SOUTHERN BREVARD...INDIAN RIVER...MARTIN AND ST LUCIE
COUNTIES LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND THE TROPICAL
STORM WATCH HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A TROPICAL STORM WARNING. THERE IS
VERY LITTLE TIME TO TAKE ANY ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON IN THIS AREA AS OUTER RAINBANDS WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES MAY BEGIN MOVING INTO THE AREA FROM SOUTHERN
BREVARD COUNTY TO MARTIN COUNTY WITHIN A FEW HOURS. WINDS TO TROPICAL
STORM FORCE SHOULD NOT BEGIN UNTIL LATER THIS AFTERNOON. BE SURE TO
FASTEN DOWN OR REMOVE LOOSE OBJECTS THAT ARE OUTSIDE. SECURE GARAGE
DOORS...ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT FACE INTO THE WIND. IF YOU LIVE IN A
MOBILE HOME CONSIDER STAYING WITH FRIENDS OR RELATIVES IN A
SUBSTANTIAL STRUCTURE. THE TRACK OF HURRICANE CHARLEY IS UNCERTAIN
RESIDENTS MONITOR THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION CLOSELY.
...WIND IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN AFFECTING THE
FORECAST AREA FROM THE SOUTH AND WEST DURING THE AFTERNOON AND
CONTINUE THROUGH THE NIGHT. PEAK WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE NEAR
HURRICANE FORCE...ESPECIALLY IN LAKE...WESTERN ORANGE...
SEMINOLE...AND WESTERN VOLUSIA COUNTIES. SUSTAINED WINDS ALONG THE
COASTAL COUNTIES OF MARTIN...ST LUCIE AND INDIAN RIVER AND
SOUTHERN BREVARD ARE NOW EXPECTED TO REACH TROPICAL STORM STRENGTH.
THE GREATEST THREAT FOR SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS AND
POSSIBLY HURRICANE FORCE WIND GUSTS IN NORTHERN BREVARD AND VOLUSIA
COUNTIES WILL COME LATE THIS EVENING. ALSO...RAINBANDS AROUND CHARLEY
MAY PRODUCE GUSTS TO 75 MPH. LARGE TREES AND SIGNS COULD BE BLOWN
DOWN CAUSING POWER OUTAGES. SOME WIND DAMAGE MAY ALSO OCCUR TO MOBILE
HOMES IF UNANCHORED.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
BECAUSE THE PREVAILING WIND ALONG THE COAST WILL BE FROM THE SOUTH
AND THEN SOUTHWEST MINOR COASTAL STORM SURGE AND BEACH EROSION
IS EXPECTED FROM CHARLEY PRIMARILY IN NORTHERN BREVARD AND VOLUSIA
COUNTIES AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE AT 7PM TONIGHT. BY THE NEXT
HIGH TIDE AROUND 7AM SATURDAY THE EFFECTS OF CHARLEY SHOULD BE
RAPIDLY DIMINISHING. AS SOUTHERLY TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
DEVELOP ALONG PARTS OF THE COAST THIS EVENING...VERY ROUGH CONDITIONS
WILL SET UP WITHIN THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY IN BREVARD COUNTY AND
THEN LATER THIS EVENING IN VOLUSIA COUNTY. THIS COULD CAUSE SOME
MINOR FLOODING IN LOW AREAS...MINOR SHORELINE EROSION AND DAMAGE TO
BOATS...DOCKS AND PIERS. STRONG SOUTH WINDS BLOWING ACROSS LAKE
OKEECHOBEE COULD BRING A SMALL SURGE TO SOUTHERN OKEECHOBEE COUNTY...
POSSIBLY AFFECTING THE OKEE TANTIE CAMPGROUND WHICH HAS BEEN
EVACUATED.
...FLOOD IMPACTS...
A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.
WIDESPREAD RAINFALL TOTALS OF THREE TO FOUR INCHES ARE
EXPECTED...WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF FOUR TO EIGHT INCHES OF
RAIN IN SPOTS AS CHARLEY PASSES THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA TODAY AND
INTO SATURDAY. PLACES ALREADY SATURATED FROM RECENT HEAVY RAINS WILL
BE MOST VULNERABLE TO SERIOUS FLOODING. IMPORTANTLY...LOCATIONS
CLOSEST TO THE CENTER TRACK OF CHARLEY STAND TO RECEIVE THE MOST
RAIN.
...MARINE IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS WILL SPREAD UP THE PENINSULA
THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE TONIGHT. THERE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL
THREAT OF STRONG WIND GUSTS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF TORNADIC
WATERSPOUTS IN THE RAIN BANDS THAT WILL FEED INTO CHARLEY AS THEY
MOVE ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS TOWARD SHORE.
...TORNADO IMPACTS...
THE TRACK OF HURRICANE CHARLEY WILL PUT ALL OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA
IN THE RIGHT FRONT QUADRANT OF ITS CIRCULATION WHICH IS THE MOST
FAVORABLE AREA FOR TORNADO DEVELOPMENT. A TORNADO WATCH IS OUT FROM
BREVARD AND OSCEOLA COUNTIES SOUTHWARD AND WILL LIKELY BE EXTENDED
NORTHWARD AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. AN OUTBREAK OF SIGNIFICANT TORNADOES
IS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE TORNADO THREAT WILL
INCREASE AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. THE FIRST OF A SERIES OF OUTER
RAINBANDS WILL MOVE INTO OKEECHOBEE AND OSCEOLA COUNTIES EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON INCREASING THE TORNADO THREAT.
...NEXT UPDATE...
THE NEXT HURRICANE LOCAL STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED AROUND 3 PM OR
SOONER IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.
