A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE GEORGIA
COAST AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST FROM THE SAVANNAH RIVER NORTH TO
THE SOUTH SANTEE RIVER. AN INLAND TROPICAL STORM WIND WARNING IS NOW
IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH
CAROLINA FOR TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL
OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA FROM THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY.

A HURRICANE WATCH HAS ALSO BEEN ISSUED FOR THE ENTIRE GEORGIA COAST.
WIND GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE GEORGIA COAST
LATE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING.

...STORM INFORMATION...
AT 11 AM EDT...HURRICANE CHARLEY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 25.2
NORTH...LONGITUDE 82.8 WEST. THIS POSITION IS ABOUT 145 MILES SOUTH
OF SARASOTA FLORIDA. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 110 MPH WITH
HIGHER GUSTS. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE THIS
AFTERNOON. HURRICANE CHARLEY CONTINUES TO MOVE TO THE NORTH NEAR 18
MPH WITH A TURN TO THE NORTH-NORTHEAST AND AN INCREASE IN FORWARD
SPEED EXPECTED.

EVEN MINOR CHANGES IN THE FORECAST TRACK OF HURRICANE CHARLEY CAN
RESULT IN LARGE DIFFERENCES IN THE EXPECTED CONDITIONS. ALL CITIZENS
IN THE AFFECTED AREAS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS STORM VERY
CLOSELY.

A HURRICANE WATCH MEANS WINDS GREATER THAN 73 MPH ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN
36 HOURS.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS WINDS OF 40 TO 73 MPH ARE LIKELY
WITHIN 24 HOURS.

THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA HAS RECOMMENDED VOLUNTARY EVACUATIONS OF
LOW LYING AREAS IN BEAUFORT...COLLETON AND JASPER COUNTIES.

...WIND IMPACTS...
WINDS WILL BE RELATIVELY LIGHT TODAY AND EARLY TONIGHT. TROPICAL
STORM FORCE WINDS...IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH...ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP
FROM THE SOUTHWEST AND SPREAD ACROSS A LARGE PART OF SOUTHEAST
GEORGIA OVERNIGHT THEN ACROSS SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA DURING THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS SATURDAY. A FEW WINDS GUSTS TO HURRICANE FORCE
ARE POSSIBLE ON SATURDAY MORNING ALONG THE GEORGIA COAST.

...STORM SURGE...
BASED ON THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK FOR CHARLEY...WINDS WILL BE
ONSHORE ALONG THE GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA COASTS BEFORE THE CENTER
OF THE STORM PASSES TO THE NORTH. WITH THE CURRENT PROJECTED STRENGTH
AND LOCATION OF THE STORM...TIDES COULD BE 3 TO 5 FEET ABOVE
PREDICTED LEVELS. MODERATE BEACH EROSION WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS
STORM.

...SEAS AND RIP CURRENTS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS AND SEAS BUILDING TO 16 FEET WILL DEVELOP
OVER THE COASTAL WATERS FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY. MARINERS SHOULD
REMAIN IN PORT. DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS WILL BE LIKELY AS THE STORM
APPROACHES.

...FLOOD IMPACTS...
WITH THE RAINFALL DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS FROM THE REMNANTS OF
BONNIE...THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED IN SOME AREAS. AN ADDITIONAL
3 TO 6 INCHES IS FORECAST WITH CHARLEY...WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS
POSSIBLE. SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PLACES WITH POOR
DRAINAGE...SMALL STREAMS AND LOW LYING AREAS.

...TORNADOES...
ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE ALONG AND EAST OF THE TRACK OF
CHARLEY LATE TONIGHT AND ON SATURDAY.
