LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION FOR NOTICES FROM LOCAL AUTHORITIES.
...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN TO INCREASE THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT.
THE FORECAST TIMING OF THE PASSAGE OF CHARLEY TO THE WEST OF
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA COASTLINE NEARLY COINCIDES WITH THE TIME OF HIGH
HIGH...AROUND MIDDAY FRIDAY. THIS MEANS THAT THE HIGHEST STORM TIDE
WILL BE BEGIN AFFECTING THE COASTLINE FRIDAY MORNING AND LASTING
UNTIL EARLY AFTERNOON AND COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 10 FEET IN NORTH
PORTION OF COLLIER COUNTY FROM VANDERBILT BEACH TO BONITA
BEACH...INCLUDING THE COCOHATCHEE RIVER...LELY BAREFOOT BEACH AND
BONITA SHORES.
MUCH OF SOUTH AND CENTRAL COLLIER COUNTY...INCLUDING NAPLES AND MARCO
ISLAND MAY SEE A STORM TIDE...THE COMBINATION OF STORM SURGE AND
NORMAL TIDES...UP TO 8 FEET ABOVE NORMAL. THIS WILL CAUSE MANY
COASTAL ROADWAYS TO FLOOD...ESPECIALLY STATE ROADS 951 AND 92 WHICH
LINK MARCO ISLAND TO THE MAINLAND.
...WIND IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...40 MPH AND HIGHER...WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT
MARCO ISLAND AND NAPLES EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. WINDS WILL REACH NEAR
HURRICANE FORCE WITH HIGHER GUSTS DURING THE AFTERNOON. THE CENTER OF
CHARLEY SHOULD MAKE ITS CLOSEST APPROACH TO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SHORTLY
AFTER NOON ON FRIDAY. THE WINDS WILL CAUSE EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE
RESULTING IN WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES WHICH COULD LAST FOR SEVERAL
DAYS.
...LOCAL MARINE IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL BEGIN AROUND MIDNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT
OFF CAPE SABLE AND WILL SPREAD NORTH TO THE COASTAL WATERS OFF NAPLES
BEFORE DAWN FRIDAY. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS WILL AFFECT THE COASTAL
WATERS EARLY FRIDAY MORNING AND LAST THROUGH MOST OF THE DAY. RIP
CURRENTS AND DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS WILL MAKE SWIMMING OR SURFING
IN THE GULF DANGEROUS. MARINERS IN THE HURRICANE WARNING AREA SHOULD
RUSH PREPARATIONS TO SECURE BOATS AND MARINE CRAFT IN PORT
REMEMBERING TO ALLOW FOR THE STORM SURGE.
...LOCAL FLOOD IMPACTS...
HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BEGIN THURSDAY NIGHT WITH TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 8
INCHES POSSIBLE AND ISOLATED AMOUNTS UP TO 10 INCHES. THIS WILL
CAUSE EXTENSIVE FLOODING OR POORLY DRAINED AREAS INCLUDINIG
UNDERPASSES AND DRAINAGE DITCHES. MANY ROADWAYS WILL BE UNDER WATER
AND ACCESS COULD BE CUT OFF TO LOW LYING AREAS. A FLOOD WATCH WILL
BE ISSUED LATER TODAY.
...LOCAL TORNADO IMPACTS..
THE PROXIMITY OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA TO THE CENTER OF CHARLEY WILL
INCREASE THE RISK OF TORNADOES IN THE OUTER RAINBANDS. THESE COULD
BE AFFECTING COLLIER AND MAINLAND MONROE COUNTIES BEGINNING LATE THIS
EVENING OR TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY FRIDAY.
...NEXT UPDATE...
THE NEXT LOCAL STATEMENT CONCERNING THE IMPACT OF HURRICANE CHARLEY
WILL BE ISSUED AROUND 6 PM EDT.
