12/09/2023 Robertson TN NWS Storm Survey
This EF-2 tornado touched down near Fairway
Trail and Kemper Court in Springfield. As it
was snapping and uprooting hardwood trees in
the area, the tornado encountered a home and
collapsed its garage door. The tornado
continued northeastward and as it approached
Hwy 41 near the Kroger shopping center,
began to increase in strength. Here, it
encountered an oil change business,
completely removing the roof. Additional
businesses were significantly damaged with
wind speeds around 110 mph (EF-1). The
tornado then crossed the railroad tracks
behind Kroger and entered into an industrial
area where multiple metal siding structures
sustained significant damage. With the
majority of these metal building systems
having Grade 5 bolts holding down the
columns, it was estimated winds in this area
topped out at 120 mph. The tornado then
struck a fire department and strip mall
before slightly weakening, but managed to
bend a steel transmission pole (EF-2/110
mph) on the east side of the industrial
park. Just to the northeast of this area,
the tornado weakened further, but still
uprooted trees and caused minor roof damage
to homes on Greystone Dr and Sloan Lane. By
the time the tornado reached Roy Pitt Road,
winds had backed off to 90 mph (EF-1) and
rolled a trailer on its side. The tornado
finally lifted near the intersection of
Oakland Road and Hwy 76E.
