...August, 2020 climate summary...
The month of August was generally wetter than normal, but
temperatures were also very close to normal across Middle
Tennessee after a hotter-than-normal July.
In Nashville, the average temperature was 79.6 degrees. This is
0.9 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 89.0
degrees and the average low was 70.2. The highest temperature in
August was 97 degrees on the 10th and the lowest temperature was
66 degrees on the 2nd and 17th. There were 15 days of 90 degrees
or better.
Rainfall for August totaled 5.87 inches. This was 2.70 inches
above normal. The greatest calendar day rainfall was 1.54 inches
on the 21st. There were 14 days with measurable rainfall.
The fastest wind gust was 55 mph on the 27th. There were 12 days
with thunderstorms.
In Clarksville, the average temperature for August was 76.7
degrees. This was half-a-degree below normal. The average high
temperature was 86.2 degrees and the average low was 67.3. The
highest temperature for the month was 93 degrees on the 10th and
the lowest temperature was 61 degrees on the 5th. There were 7
days with a temperature of 90 degrees or better.
Rainfall for the month was 4.01 inches. This is 0.90 inches above
normal. The greatest calendar day rainfall was 0.74 inches on the
29th. There were 14 days with measurable precipitation.
The fastest wind gust was 39 mph on the 10th. And there were 9
days with thunderstorms.
In Crossville, the average temperature for August was 73.0
degrees. This was 0.8 degrees below normal. The average high
temperature was 81.5 degrees and the average low was 64.5. The
highest temperature for the month was 87 degrees on the 9th and
12th and the lowest temperature was 58 degrees on the 18th.
Rainfall for the month was 5.01 inches. This is 1.02 inches above
normal. The greatest calendar day rainfall was 1.06 inches on the
28th. The first 9 days of the month were dry, but there was
measurable rainfall on 13 of the final 22 days of August.
The fastest wind gust was 34 mph on the 29th. And there were 13
days with thunderstorms.
Rainfall across Middle Tennessee remains well above normal for the
year. Through the first 8 months of 2020, Nashville has measured
39.43 inches of precipitation, which is 7.18 inches above normal.
Clarksville has recorded 41.70 inches of precipitation, which is
8.57 inches above normal. And Crossville has measured an amazing
59.99 inches of precipitation, which is 21.87 inches above normal.
The outlook for September across Middle Tennessee from the Climate
Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures with above
normal rainfall.
