...May, 2020 Climate Summary...

May, 2020 was cooler than normal with a large range of rainfall
totals.

In Nashville, the average temperature was 66.8 degrees, which was
0.7 degrees below normal. The average high was 77.6 degrees and
the average low was 56.0. The highest temperature was 91 degrees
on the 25th and the lowest temperature was 35 on the 9th.

Although there were 17 days with measurable precipitation, May's
rainfall total only came to 2.70 inches. That's less than half the
normal rainfall for the month, which is 5.50 inches. The greatest
24-hour rainfall total was 0.60 inches on the 27th.

There was 1 day on which the temperature reached 90 degrees or
greater. The highest wind gust was 72 mph on the 3rd. And there
were 5 days with thunderstorms.

At Clarksville, the average temperature for May was 64.9 degrees.
That's 1.5 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was
75.3 degrees. The average low was 54.4. The high temperature for
the month was 90 degrees on the 25th. The lowest temperature was
34 on the 9th.

Rainfall for May added up to 3.65 inches. That's 1.95 inches below
normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 0.90 inches on the 8th.
There were 15 days with measurable precipitation.

There was 1 day with a temperature of at least 90 degrees. There
were 6 days with thunderstorms. And the peak wind gust for the
month was 43 mph on the 4th.

Finally, at Crossville, the average temperature was 60.9 degrees,
which was 2.7 degrees below normal. The average high temperature
was 70.7 degrees and the average low was 51.0 degrees. The highest
observed temperature in May was 82 degrees on the 25th and the
lowest temperature was 29 on the 9th.

Rainfall for the month totaled 7.20 inches. That's 1.84 inches

the 19th. There were 16 days with measurable precipitation and 3

Looking ahead, the monthly outlook for June from the Climate
Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures across
Middle Tennessee with near normal rainfall.
