...December, 2019 finished with a warm spell...

December, 2019 finished significantly warmer than normal, owing
primarily to a warm spell that began on the 21st and lasted
through the 30th.

The average high temperature at Nashville was 57.9 degrees and
the average low was 38.9. This gives a monthly mean temperature of
48.4 degrees, which is 8.0 degrees above normal. The highest
observed temperature was 73 degrees on the 28th, and the lowest
temperature for the month was 23 degrees on the 19th. There were 7
days when the low temperature fell to the freezing mark or below.

Rainfall totaled an even 5 inches, which was 0.76 inches above
normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.53 inches, which
occurred on the 29th. Overall, there were 12 days with measurable
precipitation, and two days with an inch or more. There was a
trace of snowfall.

The average wind speed for December was 6.3 mph, and the highest
gust was 40 mph on the 9th. There was 1 day with thunderstorms.

At Crossville, the average high temperature was 53.1 degrees and
the average low was 35.3. This gives a monthly mean temperature

gust was 44 mph on the 1st. There were 2 days with thunderstorms.

The most recent outlook for Middle Tennessee from the Climate
Prediction Center for the month of January calls for a
continuation of above normal temperatures and above normal
precipitation.
