...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR NOVEMBER 5-6, 2018 TORNADO EVENT...

.Overview...Multiple tornadoes struck Middle Tennessee after dark
on November 5th-6th. Additional surveys will be conducted in the
coming days to determine exactly how many tornadoes touched down
with this event. At this time, the EF-2 Christiana Tornado is the
strongest tornado (135MPH) to strike Middle Tennessee since
December 23, 2015, which was also a tornado event that occurred at
night during Secondary Severe Weather Season.

Survey Summary:
The Christiana tornado first touched down in far northern Bedford
County off of Kimmons Road and Longview Road producing damage to
an outbuilding and a few trees. This tornado then quickly
increased in intensity to EF-2 as the tornado approached the
Bedford/Rutherford County line where two houses across the street
from one another were damaged/destroyed on Kingdom Road which
turns into Midland Fosterville Road. A well built small brick home
had its roof blown off and brick walls blown in on the homeowner
causing one minor injury. As the EF-2 tornado continued
northeast, it struck a new 3000 sq ft home on Midland Crescent
Road where unfortunately one fatality was reported as the large
home flipped 90 degrees off of its foundation onto its side.
Another home on Rock Springs Road took a direct hit from this EF-2
tornado and lost its roof and 3rd floor. This home was built in
the 1800s and remodeled in 2004. The homeowners were inside,
received the warning, and took appropriate shelter on the lowest
floor. Two 70ft tall silos were completely destroyed on this road
before the tornado finally weakened to an EF-1 as it struck a
mobile home on Rock Springs Road before dissipating near Highway
231. Two injuries were reported in this mobile home.

Survey Summary:
The EF-1 tornado began near Auburntown in Cannon County on
Hurricane Creek Road. This tornado then traveled up and down
several different large hills and hollows causing sporadic damage
to trees. A carport and a well built taxidermy barn was completely
destroyed off of Sycamore Creek Road. This tornado then crossed
into DeKalb County and caused additional tree damage on Highway
53. A house on Clear Fork Road sustained damage to the roof and
wood siding. After the tornado traveled through more hollows and
hills causing additional tree damage, it finally lifted near Dry
Creek Road.

EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the
following categories:

EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...Violent...166 to 200 mph
EF5...Violent...>200 mph
