Rainfall in August totaled 6.44 inches in Nashville which is 3.27
inches above normal. The greatest rainfall during a 24 hour period
was 1.60 inches on the 27th. This was the 16th wettest August on
record. The wettest August on record was in 1923 when 9.60 inches
fell and the driest was 0.51 inch in 1929. Weather records date
back to November 1870. Rainfall since January 1st has totaled
31.62 inches which is 0.72 inch below normal.
August 2016 ended as the 16th warmest on record in Nashville. The
temperature for August averaged 2.9 degrees above normal. The
average high was 90.9 degrees and the average low was 72.3 degrees.
The hottest temperature during the month was 96 degrees on the
27th and 28th. The coolest was 62 degrees on the 22nd and 23rd.
There were 22 days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees. The
low temperature of 76 degrees on the 30th tied for the highest
daily minimum temperature for that date set in 1951. August is the
7th consecutive month with above normal temperatures. There was a
record setting stretch of consecutive daily low temperatures of 70
degrees and above that started on July 3rd and ended on August
20th at 49 days. The old record was 41 days set in 1955.

was 41 miles an hour from the north on the 27th.
