URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
401 AM CST MON JAN 6 2014
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU...
...BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED
THROUGH TONIGHT...
.SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU EARLY TODAY
...PERHAPS ADDING ANOTHER HALF INCH TO THE ONE TO TWO INCHES THAT HAS
ALREADY FALLEN THERE. ADDITIONAL SMALLER ACCUMULATIONS MAY OCCUR LATER
TODAY FROM SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS.
SNOW FLURRIES ARE EXPECTED TO FLY OVER AREAS WEST OF THE CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU FOR THE REMAINDER OF TODAY.
SNOW COVERED ROADS CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU
TODAY...ALONG WITH PATCHY ICE UNDERNEATH THE SNOW LAYER. PATCHY
BLACK ICE WILL ALSO BE A PROBLEM OVER OTHER PARTS OF THE MID STATE...
WHERE PLUMMETING TEMPERATURES LAST NIGHT QUICKLY FROZE ANY WATER
THAT STILL LINGERED ON ROADS FROM YESTERDAY'S RAIN. HAZARDOUS
TRAVEL CONDITIONS DUE TO SNOW COVERED AND ICY ROADS WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH TONIGHT...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS ALONG AND EAST OF INTERSTATE
65...WHERE SUNSHINE WILL BE LIMITED TODAY AND TEMPERATURES WILL
REMAIN FRIGIDLY COLD.
THESE UNUSUALLY COLD TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH NORTHWEST WINDS
GUSTING TO 30 TO 40 MPH AT TIMES WILL CAUSE PREVAILING WIND CHILLS
OF MINUS TEN TO MINUS FIFTEEN. THESE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILLS CAN
RESULT IN FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS SHOULD DRESS WARMLY WITH LAYERS OF
CLOTHING AND LIMIT THEIR TIME OUTDOORS. PEOPLE WHO MUST TRAVEL
SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE COLD CONDITIONS WITH EXTRA CLOTHING AND
BLANKETS.
