...BLACK ICE WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE MAIN DRIVING HAZARD THIS
MORNING AS TEMPERATURES PLUNGE TO THE LOW SINGLE DIGITS...AND
WIND CHILLS TURN BRUTALLY COLD...
SECONDARY ROADS WILL PROBABLY HAVE THE MOST BLACK ICE THIS MORNING.
SO...EVEN THOUGH WELL TRAVELED PRIMARY ROADS AND INTERSTATES MAY
BE ICE FREE...BE CAREFUL WHEN DRIVING ALONG THE LESS TRAVELED RURAL
HIGHWAYS. BLACK ICE IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO SEE.
ARCTIC AIR WILL CONTINUE TO OVERSPREAD MIDDLE TENNESSEE THROUGHOUT
THE DAY AND TONIGHT. SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE ALONG THE UPPER
CUMBERLAND...WITH SCATTERED FLURRIES FURTHER WEST TOWARD THE
NASHVILLE AND CLARKSVILLE AREAS.
AS OF EARLY THIS MORNING...SNOW TOTALS ALONG THE UPPER CUMBERLAND WERE
MAINLY BETWEEN ONE AND TWO INCHES...WITH A DUSTING OF ONE QUARTER TO
ONE HALF INCH IN MOST AREAS FURTHER WEST.
WIND CHILLS AS LOW AS MINUS NINE DEGREES HAVE ALREADY BEEN
OBSERVED OVER WESTERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE...AND GUSTY NORTHWEST
WINDS WILL PRODUCE BITING WIND CHILLS OF BETWEEN MINUS TEN AND
MINUS FIFTEEN DEGREES FOR THE REST OF TODAY AND TONIGHT.
PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THIS KIND OF WIND AND COLD IS DANGEROUS AND
SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. ENSURE THAT THE ELDERLY...PETS AND
WATER PIPES ARE PROPERLY PROTECTED.
