THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NASHVILLE HAS ISSUED A
* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
NORTH CENTRAL RUTHERFORD COUNTY IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE...
* UNTIL 715 PM CDT
* AT 410 PM CDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN
AREA OF HEAVY RAIN ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL RUTHERFORD COUNTY.
RAINFALL ESTIMATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME MAY
LEAD TO PONDING OF WATER ON ROADS...LOW LYING...AND POOR DRAINING
AREAS IN THE ADVISORY AREA. THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES LA VERGNE AND
SMYRNA...AND THE MAIN-STEM AND TRIBUTARIES OF STEWART CREEK AND THE
STONES RIVER. TRAVEL ON INTERSTATE 24 MAY BE HAZARDOUS AS WELL IN
THE INTENSE DOWNPOURS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
