1033 PM CST SAT DEC 21 2013
AREAS AFFECTED...SRN AND CNTRL OH...ERN KY...ECNTRL TN...NE AL AND
NW GA
CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 586...587...
VALID 220433Z - 220600Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 586...587...CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...A SEVERE THREAT WILL LIKELY CONTINUE LATE THIS EVENING
INTO THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD MOVING EWD INTO THE APPALACHIAN MTNS. WIND
DAMAGE AND AN ISOLATED TORNADO THREAT WILL EXIST. A NEW WW IS
CURRENTLY BEING COORDINATING AND WW ISSUANCE WILL OCCUR SHORTLY TO
THE EAST OF WW 586 AND WW 587.
DISCUSSION...A WELL-DEVELOPED SQUALL-LINE FROM NEAR CINCINNATI
EXTENDING SSWWD ACROSS CNTRL KY...CNTRL TN AND NW AL WILL CONTINUE
TO MOVE EWD INTO A NARROW CORRIDOR OF L0W-LEVEL MOISTURE. ALTHOUGH
INSTABILITY IS WEAK ALONG THIS CORRIDOR...SFC DEWPOINTS ARE IN LOWER
TO MID 60S F. IN ADDITION...A STRONG LOW-LEVEL JET IS IN PLACE ALONG
THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE SQUALL-LINE WITH REGIONAL WSR-88D VWPS
SHOWING 60 TO 75 KT OF FLOW AT 1 TO 2 KM. THIS ALONG WITH A FORWARD
SPEED OF THE SQUALL-LINE AROUND 50 KT SHOULD BE FAVORABLE FOR WIND
DAMAGE WITH THIS THREAT IMPACTING THE WRN PORTION OF THE APPALACHIAN
MTNS OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. A TORNADO THREAT MAY ALSO EXIST WITH
ROTATING CELLS EMBEDDED IN THE LINE DUE TO STRONG LOW-LEVEL SHEAR.
HOWEVER...THE TORNADO THREAT SHOULD BECOME MORE ISOLATED AFTER
MIDNIGHT AS INSTABILITY DECREASES ACROSS THE REGION.
