NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0321 PM CST SAT DEC 21 2013
AREAS AFFECTED...WRN KY...SRN IND
CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE
VALID 212121Z - 212215Z
PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...60 PERCENT
SUMMARY...DAMAGING WINDS MAY ACCOMPANY FRONTAL CONVECTION AS TSTMS
DEVELOP/SPREAD NEWD ACROSS THE WRN TN/LOWER OH VALLEY REGION THIS
EVENING. ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
DISCUSSION...SFC LOW HAS PROGRESSED TO JUST WEST OF MEM AT 21Z WITH
FOCUSED PRESSURE FALLS DOWNSTREAM INTO SRN IND SUGGESTING A NEWD
TRACK WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS. THIS EVOLUTION HAS
ALLOWED WARM MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER TO ADVANCE ACROSS TN AND MUCH OF
KY WITH BUOYANT AIRMASS LIKELY TO SPREAD NORTH OF THE OH RIVER AHEAD
OF SFC LOW. FOR THIS REASON THERE IS INCREASING CONCERN THAT
FRONTAL CONVECTION...LIKELY IN THE FORM OF A SQUALL LINE...MAY
INTENSIFY ACROSS THE WRN TN/LOWER OH VALLEY SUCH THAT A WATCH MAY BE
REQUIRED OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. STRONG SHEAR WOULD ALSO FAVOR
DEEP ROTATING STORMS...AND A FEW SUPERCELLS COULD ALSO EVOLVE.
